Gervonta defeated Garcia. Ryan Garcia before the test
Gervonta Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) won. Hector Luis Garcia (16-1, 10 KOs) turned out to be tougher than thought before the fight. Before the fight, his chances were estimated to be 12 to 1. However, the ring showed that it was in excellent condition.
Although Davis’ punch strength is still in place.
Gervonta worked calmly halfway through the battle. Garcia was able to prove himself until he started to admit it.
Davis never boxed brilliantly from the first seconds. Or rather, it is not. Gervonta always boxing brilliantly – the power of the blow allows. But never rush to enter the exchange.
By contrast, Hector Luis got to work from the very first seconds. He tried combined, trying to divide the opponent into multiples. The American just smiled.
A smile is, of course, indicative. In every sense. And it’s flashy, because obviously the same Rolando didn’t fly as hard as against Romero. And it is an indication that the fight against Garcia as a whole is controlled by the favorite.
After three or four rounds, Gervonta started boxing. It worked fine before that but eventually it started to really hit and catch the opponent. The direct hits were especially great. Since both opponents are left-handed, it was necessary to find a way to attack with the main right hand in a different way against standard opponents. Surprisingly, the overall Dominican player was best caught in a simple duo that repeatedly hit the target.
The fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth rounds were dictated by Gervonta. Even then, not wanting to catch the opponent in everything he missed, he preferred to let the episodes run.
In the eighth round, Davis caught his opponent several times with direct blows – he blushed and clearly did not feel in his best way. And then the fight started. But not in the ring, behind the ropes. Even the fighters were distracted and the referee stopped the fight until the main fighters of the hall, not the ring, emerged.
The favorite finished the round with the standard series, the weaker’s face reddened even more. At the same time, Garcia did not seem like a fighter on the brink.
Already during the break, Hector Luis announced that he saw nothing around the corner. After talking for a few seconds, the Dominik team decided that everything had to be stopped and announced that they refused to box any more.
Davis was a little pissed off, but mostly happy. Second early victory for the American. Most recently, Isaac Cruz drove the whole fight with him. And then Davis was really tough. Not like today.
What’s next?
Hector Luis Garcia is great. He showed that he could do more than attack without insane leaps, but with his hands down.
Naturally, he missed. A lot – not more than in previous fights, but enough to lose ahead of schedule.
But he went in. Good combination work and surprisingly smart boxing, even in counter-kick. Gervonte had to think about what to do and how to open this gift. Davis always said he was comfortable boxing against a bigger opponent, but it took some effort.
Hector will be able to compete in the lightweight and return to the category where he held an interim title. And everywhere will be quite curious. Garcia, 31, shows that he is a versatile boxer who can still thrive. And go at the usual pace and work smart like today.
Gervonta heads towards a big fight against Ryan Garcia. He didn’t even want to fight for a while – he says he just wanted mega fights. Gervonta was smarter. Hector Luis turned out to be an interesting test, after which you can go to the mega fight in good shape.
The fight is yet to be confirmed, but the guys fought for it so long and loudly that fans will no longer understand the glitch. Gervonta has no excuses. He wants to fight and they part ways with Floyd Mayweather as promoter.
Will Oscar stop Ryan from De La Hoya? It’s hard if he doesn’t want to lose one of his main fighters, Garcia.
Looks like it will be a mega fight. This is incredible news for all fans.

2020 Olympics champion boxer Batyrgaziev decided to take a break from his career
Olympic champion and former interim WBA super featherweight champion Albert Batyrgaziev decided to take a break from his professional career.
At the beginning of July in Istanbul at the “IBA.PRO 8” tournament, Batyrgaziev lost early to the British James Dickens and lost the IBA.PRO champion and interim WBA champion titles in the second featherweight division. For the 27-year-old Russian, this was the first defeat in his professional career.
— I want to tell you honestly about my plans. Many people ask about their future career. Now I have decided to take a conscious break from my professional career. For me, boxing has been and remains a huge part of my life. Therefore, this choice is now very difficult. My whole sports life has been a race to the top: four Russian championships, an Olympic medal in Tokyo and then turning professional, where I went undefeated.
The last fight on July 2 was a turning point for me. The first defeat made me look at many things differently. I thank Allah for the trials and mercies that helped me become a better person. Since I have always felt a responsibility not only in the ring, but also before society, now is the time to become more active in projects that I have long planned, for example, supporting the development of sports infrastructure in my native regions. This doesn’t mean I’m saying goodbye to the ring. I remain an active boxer. But now all my work is outside of it. I thank everyone for their incredible support along this path: both in moments of triumph and in moments of challenge. She gives strength. I promise this new chapter will be just as honest and purposeful. I’m not saying goodbye, I’m just saying “goodbye,” Batyrgaziev wrote in the Telegram channel.
Batyrgaziev won gold in the weight category up to 57 kg at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. In the professional ring he has 12 wins and one loss.
