The new closed training center with an air-supported dome (balloon) being completed in the EAK Olympic Village was visited by Deputy Minister of Sports Yannis Vroutsis.

The Minister was briefed in detail by the President Petros Galanis and the members of the Sports Center Management Committee on the progress of the work on the new indoor training facility built by Lamda Development as part of the renovation projects and the will is now the “home” of the national wrestling -, judo and boxing teams, which were previously based at the Agios Kosmas National Sports Academy.

In the presence of the Presidents of the Boxing Association, Haris Mariolis and the Judo Association, Dimitris Michaelidis, as well as the Deputy President of the Wrestling Association, Dimitris Trambakulas, as well as international athletes and coaches of the three martial arts, all of whom warmly thanked him, Mr. Vroutsis wished “caloriziko and that the new training facility should be the incubator for the birth of further international champions and Olympians“, underlining:

“It is a very important day and as Sports Minister I am particularly happy that we are here today.” In the new indoor training facility in the Olympic Village, which will be the permanent headquarters for the sports of wrestling, judo and boxing, together with the presidents of the three sports and the athletes who represent our country, for which we thank them very much.

We are creating again in the Olympic Village, in this iconic space that shone in 2004. In addition to the new indoor training facility, the two other indoor facilities, which also have athletics, there is another very important sports facility, the swimming pool, which is preparing to reopen.

We are improving the sports infrastructure in our country as much as possible every day. That is our goal, that is our effort.

We should be very proud because the Olympics and sports were born in our country and this is the comparative advantage of our Greece.”

The Sports Minister also pointed out that “The upgrading of sport at the ministry level and within its real family, the Ministry of Education, will help us to significantly strengthen school and university sport, but also sport for all, and concrete initiatives will be announced in the near future give this direction. To transmit the values ​​of sport throughout the world, in all schools and at all universities.”

Mr. Vroutsis also visited the swimming pool, which has not been in use since 2004, where the Olympic swimming pool is being reconstructed (also by Lamda Development as part of the rehabilitation projects following the concession of the premises of the EAKN Agios Kosmas for the). Metropolitan Park in Elliniko), but also the other facilities of the EAK Olympic Village with the two indoor sports halls (basketball, volleyball, handball and other sports), the open athletics stadium, the 4 tennis courts and the Be Active Outdoor Gym.

The Minister congratulated the management and employees for the great modernization of the facilities, abandoned for 16 years (they passed from the OAED to the ownership of the Ministry of Sports in the spring of 2020) and was informed of the further development of EAK Olympic Village, following the concession of 46 Hectares by the municipality of Acharnon (with the creation of an airfield, off-road track, mountain bike, etc.).

In fact, Mr. Vroutsis announced the increase of the EAK Olympic Village’s annual regular subsidy by 32% (an additional €160,000) to meet its increased requirements as a supra-local sports center in Attica.
