Povetkin said he would root for the Ukrainian boxer Usyk in any case

Olympic champion, world and European boxing champion Alexander Povetkin said he would be rooting for Ukrainian Alexander Usik and Russian Dmitry Bivol in their next fights with Anthony Joshua and Saul Alvarez, respectively.

– Who is the best heavyweight in professional boxing for you right now? Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk?

– Hard to say. In any case, I will root for Usyk.

– His wife said that you called Alexander after February 24th. Can you tell what the dialogue was about?

– We corresponded a little. He has his own attitude. I can’t say anything bad about him. This is his side. I said: look at the Donbass, at Lugansk. How many children died there. Yours, Ukrainian. How medals were torn off veterans. This is fine? They forgot who won the war. But the fact that Ukraine is our fraternal people, I still say. I didn’t speak to his wife at all. I have never spoken to her and have nothing bad to say. Sasha is a strong and good athlete. I can’t say anything bad about him.

– Usyk will be the favorite in the duel with Joshua?

“It will be for me, but I don’t know.

– What are the chances of Dmitry Bivol to defeat Saul Alvarez?

— I’ll be rooting for Bivol, for sure. He will have every opportunity to win. Everything is there, – NEWS.ru quotes Povetkin.

The head of Top Rank, Bob Arum, previously announced that Usyk and Joshua will fight on July 25. On account of 32-year-old Joshua 24 wins (22 by knockout) with two defeats, 35-year-old Usyk has 19 wins (13 by knockout).

The fight between Bivol and Saul Alvarez will take place on the night of May 8 in Las Vegas. On account of 31-year-old Bivol 19 victories in professional boxing (11 of them by knockout), he performs without defeat. Alvarez, 31, has won 57 fights (39 by KO), with 1 loss and 2 draws.

One of the best boxers of our time talks about retiring

On Saturday, December 27, in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), the Ring V boxing night will take place, the main event of which will be the fight of the absolute world champion. Naoi Inoue From Japan and Mexican competitor Alan David Picasso.

On the eve of this confrontation, the Japanese “Beast” shared his expectations from the upcoming confrontation and also talked about a possible retirement.

“I can’t afford to lose. My motivation depends on where I am in the league. I have achieved results that satisfy me.

But now I am 32 years old and my expectations are very clear. We’re talking about retirement… At this stage of my career, it’s becoming more and more obvious that I will retire one day.

I’m doing the same show with Junto Nakatani, so fans will be looking forward to next year. So I need to show them I’m still in the game. Our common victory is our highest priority.

I’ve had a high performance so far and I’m proud. If that feeling of satisfaction starts to fade, then you’ll probably start to lose weight. When you stop testing yourself, it all ends,” Inoue concluded.
