RFU executive committee will apply to UEFA to create a working group on returning to official tournaments – Dyukov

President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov said that the organization will apply to UEFA in order to create a working group to return clubs and national teams to official tournaments.

The Executive Committee met on 30 December.

– Today we have completed the meeting of the executive committee. The first issue is the issue of licensing, the decision was made. The second question is the transition from UEFA to AFC. The Executive Committee decided to apply to UEFA with a request to create a working group. The purpose of the working group is to analyze and develop proposals and a set of measures for the return of clubs and national teams to official tournaments.

The working group will be formed after the holidays. The work of the group should be completed by April 1. A preliminary agreement with UEFA on the creation of a group has been reached, a letter on this issue will be sent today. Later we will decide who will invite representatives of the IOC and FIFA to work with the group, – Dyukov quoted Match TV as saying.

– Can we say that the issue of moving to Asia is closed after today’s meeting?

– A working group is being created, which will include not only representatives of UEFA, but also FIFA and the IOC. Our task is to ensure that our clubs and national teams return to official competitions. We will work on the option of returning to UEFA competition as soon as possible. If we understand that this is impossible, then the working option is to change the conference, go to AFC.

The main task is to find solutions that will allow our clubs and teams to return to the competition as quickly as possible. One of the main goals is participation in the 2026 World Cup, (it is necessary) to develop a roadmap and find ways that will allow you to take part in the selection for the 2026 World Cup, the head of the RFU added.

Russian clubs and teams have been suspended from participation in tournaments under the auspices of UEFA and FIFA due to the situation in Ukraine.

The Ministry of Sports proposes to tighten the limit for foreign players by 2028 according to the “10 foreign players in the application, 5 on the field” scheme.

“The Ministry gave the football community, experts and specialists the opportunity to talk openly about this issue. As far as I understand, the discussion process continues,” Dyukov said.
