Lionel Messi and The Best Award.

At the end of October 2016 FIFA announced the first list of candidates for its first installment The Best Award. “This event is dedicated to football and all the players, coaches and fans who live it with passion“, said then the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, to whom he added:It will be a new event to remember, celebrating the sport we love so much“.

From that year to the present day, world football’s parent entity awards the best of a football season, one of the many differences with France Football’s Ballon d’Or, which rewards the course of a calendar year. Lionel Messi, considered by many to be the best player in history, knew how to be awarded by FIFA, but how many The Best awards did he win?

How many The Best awards has Lionel Messi won?

Without reaching six like in the Golden Ball, Lionel Messi has twice won FIFA’s The Best Award: in the 2019 and 2022 editions. The Argentine outvoted the Dutch Virgil van Dijk and the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo in the first, while in the second he defeated the French Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappé.

In 2016 and 2017 he was in second place, behind CR7. As in 2021, but on that occasion the winner was Poland’s Robert Lewandowski. In 2018 it finished in fifth place (the winner was Luka Modrić) and in 2020 it finished in third place (the award went to Robert Lewandowski).

Goalkeeper for the Senegalese national team Edouard Mendy denied speculation that the Moroccan international would be an attacker Brahim Diaz he deliberately missed a penalty in the final seconds of regulation time in the Africa Cup of Nations final.

A controversial penalty was awarded against the Senegalese, after which the team left the field. Soon the players returned and the shot was taken: Diaz hit it lightly in the center of the goal, and Mendy took the ball firmly.

The goalkeeper, answering the question if there was an agreement with Diaz, said:

Obviously not. Let’s be serious. Does anyone really think that one minute before the end of the match, when the whole country had been waiting for this title for 50 years, they could agree on something like this? He wanted to score and I did my job by stopping him and nothing else.

Gondu spoke about his move from Zenit to CSKA

Argentine attacker Luciano Gondo commented on his transfer from Zenit to CSKA. The player moved to the Moscow club in early January.

It wasn’t difficult to decide, this is a great club, a respectable brand. I learned about the interest of the army team somewhere in October, when I was already looking for a new club. Therefore, I followed the performances closely CSKA and I know exactly how he plays.

I was welcomed very well by both the team and the coaching staff. This warm welcome helps you adapt faster.
