“In Spain, no one even knows who Abascal is” – Mostovoy

Former player of the Russian national team Alexander Mostovoy told RB Sport that he does not consider the merit of coach Guillermo Abascal to be Spartak in the top three in the RPL.

In the match of the 29th round, Spartak played a draw at home with PARI NN (0:0). The team is in third place, one point behind second-placed CSKA.

– A draw with PARI NN will definitely not affect Abaskal’s future in any way, he signed a crazy contract, he would not have earned that kind of money anywhere else, – says Mostovoy. – In Spain or other countries, no one would have paid him that much, especially since in Spain no one even knows who it is. As for the performances this season, I immediately said that with such a line-up and budget, they should be in the top three. That’s where Spartak is now.

– It turns out that Abascal is well done?

– No. Without Abascal, Spartak will also be in the top three. What’s the difference? If they told me that Abaskal came to Fakel and took third place, then I would have answered: “Really! Tree sticks! He must have come up with something new in football.” He did not come to Fakel, Ural or Khimki.

– With Spartak, would anyone become third?

Well, not any. Normal football man. And not with Spartak, but with this squad.

Calls to remove Russia’s partners sound like desperation – Svishchev

Requests by Ukrainian officials to impose sanctions against Russia’s partners after the renewed admission of Russian athletes to competitions do not find understanding and seem like a gesture of desperation. This opinion was expressed by the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev.

Former president of the Ukrainian Football Federation Andrei Shevchenko called for sanctions and the removal from participation in sports competitions of representatives of countries supporting Russia.

“These are already some gestures of desperation. Our athletes are increasingly allowed to participate in international competitions; there are no conflicts or boycotts. Athletes even communicate with each other, this does not bring negative consequences. The appeals of Ukrainians to remove our athletes from every part of the world no longer find understanding among appropriate sports officials. Therefore, such appeals already seem desperate,” Svishchev said.

Shevchenko made statements about the Ukraine-Sweden match in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers

UAF President Andrey Shevchenko He talked about the match against the Swedish national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“When we were drawn against Sweden we probably faced our toughest opponent. I have great respect for Swedish football, you have always had good national teams and great players.”

“It’s always difficult to face Scandinavian teams, even though you don’t qualify for the World Cup, because you have so much quality, character and identity. This is similar to us to some extent. I don’t think there are favourites. In the end it all depends on the details, the injury situation and the preparations,” said Shevchenko.

In case of victory, Ukraine will play with the winner of the Poland-Albania doubles for a ticket to the World Cup. Ukraine will play the final match at home on March 31, again conditionally.

In addition to the 12 teams that finished second in their groups, the 4 winners of the Nations League quartet will also participate in the play-offs. All 16 participants are divided into 4 paths. Each route will include a semi-final and a final. The semi-finals will be held on March 26, and the finals will be held on March 31, 2026.
