Head coach of Spartak Guillermo Abascal summed up his first season in RPL.
Only the best result is always expected from Spartak. Sure, the result could be better, but third place in the championship isn’t bad. After all, last season was the first and big step in the development of our team. And I’m not just talking about the game, but also about building the entire work process.
When we showed productive and attacking football, many wanted it to continue like this all the time: the expectations of the fans became very high. But it’s important to understand that many teams acted as carefully as possible against us, from the first minutes thinking only about how not to concede a goal. The attackers also defended their gates. Playing 90 minutes against such a low block is very difficult! In these matches you need maturity, experience, concentration and the ability to exploit your chances. I think in the new season we will be more confident in dealing with those barriers.
Well, the worst thing that happened to us is the abundance of wounded. If I’m not mistaken, in 37 out of 42 games of the season we could not count on any of the players due to injuries. In the spring this deprived us of the necessary stability, we managed to repeat the back four only twice in the next game. In such a situation, it’s hard to count on perfect lane action – new player combinations take time to adjust.
If we talk about playing in attack, after the winter break, on the contrary, we have improved all our indicators! We created more dangerous chances and scoring situations, even more ball possession. But disappointed in the effectiveness of these attacks. This is where we landed. And now we are actively working to solve this problem. Even inviting new artists.
In addition, the Spanish specialist said that he was waiting for the transfer of another defender due to injury Tomas Tavares.
This is the main reason why Tomas suffered a very serious injury and it will take a long time to recover. And we have to find a replacement for him. We had Rybus in this position but he also left the club.
And here’s what Abascal had to say about the team’s newcomers:
First impressions of them are very good, both players are full of energy and desire. We are happy that they are with us now. Jesus and Theo will help us become more different, because before we lacked balance and often “unloaded” ourselves on one side of the field. We want to be more unpredictable, use both hips more actively. At the same time, both Medina and Bongonda must understand that earning a place at the start of a club like Spartak is not at all easy. We will do everything so that they quickly understand our tactics and ideas.
