Spartak fans can exhale. The saga with Abascal is over

The Spanish coach was wooed to Seville, but for now he remains in Russia.

In recent months, the topic of Guillermo Abascal’s possible departure from Spartak has been actively discussed. Either they allegedly found a replacement for him, or the Spaniard himself could leave for his homeland. However, in reality all the conversations led to nothing.

Another epic with the departure of Abaskal ended in nothing. Guillermo remains in Moscow.

Homecoming?

A wave of rumors about Guillermo’s departure emerged over the weekend. On Saturday, Sevilla announced his coaching resignation: Diego Alonso, who had worked at the club for just over two months, was fired. He failed to lead the Andalusians into the spring part of the European Cups: the team took fourth place in Group B of the Champions League, gaining only two points. And in the championship, Alonso did not improve the situation, leaving Sevilla dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Immediately after the dismissal, there were rumors that Guillermo Abascal would lead the team out of the crisis. Partly they could be understood: the Spartak helmsman was born and raised in Seville, and for him this option would, in fact, be a return home. In addition, both clubs are known as supporters of red and white colors. It seemed that all the components were coming together in an ideal way – Abascal was going to Spain to pull the top club out of the swamp.

“Abascal is unknown to anyone”

However, in his homeland, to put it mildly, they did not appreciate this development of events. Guillermo in Sevilla? It sounds ambiguous.

“After Diego Alonso, Sevilla needs a well-known face in the coaching position, and Abascal is unknown to anyone in Spain,” said Marca editor Juan Castro in an interview with Championship.

Later, Seville responded to the wave of rumors. The club’s response was expected – no one is considering Abascal.

“The fact that Abascal is on the list of candidates for the post of head coach of Sevilla is not true,” said the club’s director of media relations, Alvaro Ramirez, as quoted by Sport24.

Coach with titles

The rumors finally stopped when the Spanish club made an official statement. No, he did not demand that the restless insiders calm down. Sevilla simply announced the name of the new coach, and it was not Abascal.

The team was led by Quique Sanchez Flores. The 58-year-old Madrid native has long been a household name in the football world, having won Atlético’s Europa League and UEFA Super Cup victories, as well as titles in Portugal and the UAE. Quique’s last club was Getafe, but in April the specialist was fired, and he was unemployed for more than six months.

His main task is to bring Sevilla to its senses and improve its position in the La Liga table. There is no talk of qualifying for European competition, let alone championships.

While you can breathe out

As for Abaskal, he remains the coach of Spartak. Muscovites can breathe out – they won’t have to urgently look for a replacement. You can relax peacefully during the New Year holidays and then prepare for the spring part of the season at MIR RPL.

But where is the guarantee that some Spanish club will not want to invite Guillermo to work? And what if he agrees? In any case, Spartak should keep its ears open.

Aston Villa footballer Watkins calls Emery a tactical genius

The scorer of the brace against Chelsea is an Aston Villa player. Ollie Watkins appointed head coach of the team Unai Emery tactical genius. Watkins’ comment is quoted by the BBC in reference to Sky Sports.

The meeting of the 18th round of the English championship between Aston Villa and Chelsea from London ended with a strong victory for the Birmingham team with a score of 2:1.

“He changed tactics because Chelsea played man-marking, but he had an extra central defender when we played long balls. When I came on in the second half, he put Jadon Sancho and Morgan Rodgers on the wing and put Youri Tielemans in the No. 10 position, so we had an extra player. He’s a tactical genius,” Watkins said.

“Amazing victory. For me personally, to go on the pitch and score two goals is a fantastic feeling, but to continue that streak and come here to such a difficult place and beat Chelsea is just incredible,” he added.
