“Gogniev tried to rebuild Khimki, but he needed more time” – Antic

Former Khimki football player Nikola Antic said that the former head coach of the Moscow region club Spartak Gogniev did not have enough time to rebuild the team.

Gogniev coached Khimki near Moscow until April 2023, under his leadership the team won one victory and drew three times in 19 matches. Before this, the specialist headed the Vladikavkaz Alania.

— When Gogniev headed Khimki, Ilya Sadygov, the son of the club’s main investor, often found himself in the main team. Didn’t you feel that he was being deliberately pulled into the base?

– No, Ilya is a normal football player, a good person. All Khimki players accepted the fact that he was on the team normally. In fact, Ilya corresponds to the level of the RPL; it cannot be said that he takes someone else’s place. There was no special attitude towards him.

— Under Gogniev, you lost 15 out of 19 matches and won only one victory. Why did this happen?

— He tried to rebuild the team, it probably needed more time. I also think the misunderstanding between the foreign players and Russian players played a role. It is much more difficult for players from South America to adapt to Russia than, for example, for me. Some had problems with their family moving, others with documents. When I arrived, we tied with Fakel on the road, then played a spirited game with Zenit, losing in the end. It seemed that everything could get better now. But then something broke. This happens. When Talalaev arrived, the situation stabilized a little, but it was already too late – we flew out of the RPL,” RB Sport quotes Antic as saying.

Calls to remove Russia’s partners sound like desperation – Svishchev

Requests by Ukrainian officials to impose sanctions against Russia’s partners after the renewed admission of Russian athletes to competitions do not find understanding and seem like a gesture of desperation. This opinion was expressed by the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev.

Former president of the Ukrainian Football Federation Andrei Shevchenko called for sanctions and the removal from participation in sports competitions of representatives of countries supporting Russia.

“These are already some gestures of desperation. Our athletes are increasingly allowed to participate in international competitions; there are no conflicts or boycotts. Athletes even communicate with each other, this does not bring negative consequences. The appeals of Ukrainians to remove our athletes from every part of the world no longer find understanding among appropriate sports officials. Therefore, such appeals already seem desperate,” Svishchev said.

Shevchenko made statements about the Ukraine-Sweden match in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers

UAF President Andrey Shevchenko He talked about the match against the Swedish national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“When we were drawn against Sweden we probably faced our toughest opponent. I have great respect for Swedish football, you have always had good national teams and great players.”

“It’s always difficult to face Scandinavian teams, even though you don’t qualify for the World Cup, because you have so much quality, character and identity. This is similar to us to some extent. I don’t think there are favourites. In the end it all depends on the details, the injury situation and the preparations,” said Shevchenko.

In case of victory, Ukraine will play with the winner of the Poland-Albania doubles for a ticket to the World Cup. Ukraine will play the final match at home on March 31, again conditionally.

In addition to the 12 teams that finished second in their groups, the 4 winners of the Nations League quartet will also participate in the play-offs. All 16 participants are divided into 4 paths. Each route will include a semi-final and a final. The semi-finals will be held on March 26, and the finals will be held on March 31, 2026.
