Juan Carcedo, who headed Spartak, told how negotiations with the Moscow club took place.
Carcedo was appointed to the post of head coach of Spartak in early January. The 52-year-old specialist’s agreement with the Red and Whites runs until the summer of 2028. The Spaniard’s previous club was Cypriot Paphos, which he coached since the summer of 2023. Under his leadership, the team became the champion of Cyprus last season and qualified for the Champions League. Carcedo already worked for Spartak in 2012 as an assistant to Unai Emery.
“I was truly lucky to return to Russia and again become part of the Spartak family. We are looking forward to the start of training camp. We understand very well what a strong team this is, what a big club. And we will do everything to win new trophies and achieve success.
— You got acquainted with the stadium, the museum, the training base. 14 years ago, Spartak had none of this.
– I’m very impressed! The stadium is the most modern. The base too, it is located very close to the arena. Of course, it cannot be compared with what we had in those years when I worked here for the first time. The club has come a long way in development. And now we see its scale.
— How did you respond to Spartak’s offer?
— My headquarters was pleased with the work in Cyprus. But when Spartak calls you, you simply cannot refuse. This is a challenge for me. In the first period here, Unai Emery and I were still young. This was our first experience in another country. Now my assistants and I are better prepared. I think we are able to show results.
— How were the negotiations with the management of our club?
– Quite easy. By that time we had already decided to accept this invitation. “I’m inspired by the opportunity to return, to take on a new challenge,” said Carcedo, as quoted by the press service of the Moscow club.
Based on the results of 18 rounds of the WORLD RPL, Spartak is in sixth place, 11 points behind the leading Krasnodar.
