Eindhoven – Leicester 1-2: Epic qualifier for the foxes with total surprise in the final

Eindhoven took the lead in the 27th minute and held the lead until 77′ but Leicester found two goals in 11 minutes with Madison and Pereira to pull off an incredible upset and qualify for the top four teams in the Conference League .

After the English Championship (2016) and English Cup (2021), Leicester have every reason to believe that the dream they have been living in recent years will extend beyond their home borders.

On Thursday evening (April 14), Brendan Rodgers’ team had their backs to the wall, lost 1-0 to Eindhoven after the 27th minute, but didn’t put down, went into the home straight of the game and scored their top scorer Madison (77′ ) and Pereira (88′) caused a big upset that gave her a huge qualification for Conference League 4.

This is the first time the foxes have reached the semi-finals of a European tournament and are now waiting for the Roma – Bodo Glimt pair to determine the winner to see the team they will find ahead of them on the way to the final.

The game

The first part at Phillips Stadium was full of phases, both teams played openly and created chances for both sides. Eindhoven had their first big period in the 14th minute when Schmeichel impressively blocked a powerful shot from Götze, while Leicester “replied” two minutes later, with Barnes coming out on his own against Embogo and sending the ball wide with a left pitch.

In the 25th minute, Schmeichel had a second positive operation and chased a Gakpo shot into a corner, but in the 27th minute came the stage where PSV’s third chance was the medicine for the Foxes. Tillemans made a “cheap” mistake outside of his team area, Goethe equalized to Zahavi, the Israeli striker defeated Schmeichel with a cross to make it 1-0, which remained until the end.

In the second half Leicester had more time on the ball but that allowed the hosts to find gaps more easily and scored a second through the efforts of Feyerman (53′) and Zahavi (59′).

For their part, Leicester equalized in the 62nd minute when Dhaka came out alone against Embogo and sent the ball to the right post, while threatening Madison in the 63rd minute when his shot went off the left beam.

In 69′ the Foxes had another dangerous shot, but Tillemans couldn’t find a target with difficulty outside the box, while the dance of opportunities continued with the hosts in 74′, with Sangares’ shot from the top of the penalty spot clipping the ball over the horizontal bar sent by Schmeichel.

The mad rhythm continued and in the 77th minute it was the English’s turn to roil their crowd, with Perez delivering impressive individual energy from the right and leveling for Madison, who shot down the small with an elusive shot from above Penalty scored 1- 1.

That goal gave Leicester confidence and in 83′ he had a huge chance to fall all over the place, but it didn’t come as Embogo instinctively saved Perez’s narrow position. However, the Foxes continued to pound the Dutch goal and were rewarded in 88′ when they hid the ball and Dhaka was initially defeated by Embogo but Pereira followed as a supporter to send the ball into the net (1-2).

In the last few minutes, Schmidt’s shocked players tried to equalize to send the game into overtime, but Rodgers’s persevered and celebrated a great qualification in the final that entitles them to another great title introduce the Premier League and the FA Cup.
