Dnipro-1 – AEK Larnaca. Prediction and announcement for the Europa League qualifying match
In the Europa League qualifiers, Dnipro-1 will play AEK from Cyprus representative Larnaca, which is modest by European standards. Unlike most Ukrainian participants in European competitions, Dnipro-1 decided to play their home matches not in Poland, but in another neighboring country – Slovakia. To be more precise – in the city of Kosice.
“Dnepr-1”
Dnepr-1 enters the fray as the last of the Ukrainian clubs in European competitions, and the team is doing so at a time when Vorskla and Zorya have already managed to fly. At the same time, Dnipro-1 is guaranteed the European Cup in the fall – in case of defeat in the face of AEK, Oleksandr Kucher’s team will play in the group stage of the third-placed European tournament – the Conference League.
Most of the Ukrainian clubs playing in European cups this summer have gone through big changes. Moreover, “Dnepr-1” was no exception: the changes here are the most important, one might say, fundamental. If in other clubs they touched the composition of the team, in some – the coaching staff, then in Dnipro-1 – even the top management of the club.
We are talking about the transition of such a well-known official as Evgeny Krasnikov, who was appointed to the post of sports director of the club, from Metalist Kharkiv. With him came Oleksandr Kucher, head coach of the Kharkiv team. He will replace Croatian Igor Jovicević, who moved to Shakhtar Donetsk after a scandal – guaranteed participation in the Champions League was difficult to refuse.
Major changes also occurred in the composition of the Dnieper-1. Moreover, unlike most Ukrainian clubs, Dnipro-1 cannot be said to have weakened. Yes, the talented Yegor Yarmolyuk was sold to Brentford, and Neven Djurasek never returned to the club, the main goalkeeper Valentin Cojocaru left.
However, the gain is solid. Dnipro-1 is, in fact, the only UPL club that, despite the war in Ukraine, continues to invite foreign players, including those from South America (could it be different with Krasnikov?). The most famous of them is midfielder Domingo Blanco, who even had a game in the Argentina national team. We note the Ukrainian newcomers Artem Gromov and Vladimir Tanchik.
Also throughout the summer there were rumors about the sale of the main star of Dnepr-1, Artem Dovbik. And now, at the end of summer, a new variant has appeared in Serie A – Salernitana. Let’s see how this story will end, but for now Dovbik remains with the team. In general, Alexander Kucher’s material is high-quality and interesting, but what to do with it is another question.
AEK Larnaca
Dnipro-1’s rival, AEK from Larnaca, is a modest club by European standards. However, last season, José Luis Oltra’s team finished second in the Cyprus Championship and qualified to qualify for the Champions League.
From there, in the second round, AEK flew out of the Danish “Midtjylland” and relegated to the Europa League, where in the sum of two matches is not the easiest opponent – the Serbian “Partizan” (2:1, 2:2). Therefore, the Cypriot club, especially the team with the most European Cup experience, should not be underestimated.
Prediction for confrontation
Bookmakers estimate the chances of the teams in the first match almost equally, but Dnepr-1 still gives a slight advantage. We also believe that Oleksandr Kucher’s debut will be successful. Our prediction is Dnipro-1 win, odds are 2.54.
Approximate compositions:
“Dnepr-1”: Valef, Luchkevich, Adamyuk, Svatok, Busanello, Sarapiy, Blanco, Nazarenko, Gromov, Pikhalyonok, Dovbik.
AEK Larnaca: Piric – Garcia, Tomovic, Milicevic, Rosales – Ledes, Oyer – Gyurcho, Trichkovsky, Farage – Olatunji.

Zinchenko announces Nottingham Forest’s Europa League victory over Utrecht
Ukrainian defender Nottingham Forest Alexander Zinchenko He shared his feelings after his team beat Utrecht (2:1) in the main round of the Europa League.
“It’s a great feeling. First of all, I’m back. Secondly, it’s an incredible feeling to win a match. Getting three points today was very important for us. As you can see, it was a difficult match. But at the end of the match, I think we got what we wanted and let’s continue like that.”
“As a defender you always want to keep a clean sheet, but unfortunately we couldn’t do that today. So it’s something we need to work on in the future.”
“This is one of those matches where whoever wins the most challenges in different areas of the field will win the match. Today we won many more goals which helped us a lot in the game. But to be honest, even the opportunities we created, including me, we should have scored and finished this match earlier,” said Zinchenko.
Nottingham Forest is in 11th place in the rankings with 11 points after 6 matches in the Europa League this season.

Sports doctor criticizes Nottingham head coach over Zinchenko
sports doctor Dmitry Babelyuk He was not happy with the decision made by Sean Dyche, the head coach of English Nottingham, in the match against Dutch Utrecht in the Europa League (2-1).
The Foresters’ coach has given Ukraine national team defender Alexander Zinchenko a place in the starting squad after the player missed nine matches due to injury.
“These old-school coaches never cease to amaze. In 2025, with the advancement of sports science and medicine, I don’t understand how it is possible to release a player from the winger position for a full 90 minutes at the same time after two muscle injuries.
First, Moyes did this to Mikolenko, which led to Vitaly’s relapse. Now Dyche makes the same obvious mistakes.
Understanding that Zinchenko is a player who has regularly suffered from muscle problems in recent seasons; injured twice at Nottingham in the last three months; Having not played for the last six weeks, I cannot imagine how anyone could be so negligent in getting a player into top playing form.
This is not often seen in the new generation of coaches such as Thomas Frank or Enzo Mareschi, but the old ones continue to rely on their own emotions, leaving players in danger of unnecessary relapses.
I hope everything goes well for Sasha and he returns to his best form, but playing 90 minutes at a time after two months of treatment is outright stupidity in modern football at the top level,” Babelyuk raged.

DYCH: “There was no such plan. Zinchenko did an incredible job”
Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche The performance of the players who returned to the field after their injuries in the 6th round match against Utrecht in the Europa League (2-1) was evaluated as follows:
“I’m happy for a lot of the players. Douglas Louis only trained for two days. I don’t usually do that, but he talked to me and said he felt good. He wanted to play.”
“Zinchenko did an incredible job” for the full 90 minutes. We didn’t have such a plan, but we can only make a certain number of changes.
Murillo returned after a week’s illness. We had to be careful with him.
It was difficult to make sound decisions about who would play, who would not play, and how many minutes he would stay on the field. But in the end everything went well and I am very happy.”
