Manchester United 1-1 Leicester: Painful draw for the Red Devils

Manchester United stayed 1-1 with Leicester at Old Trafford, losing valuable ground in the battle to overtake Arsenal and finish 4th, leading to the new Champions League.

Manchester United threw two priceless points in the fight for the 4th ticket to the Champions League on Saturday night (2/4) and stayed 1-1 with Leicester in the 31st game of the Premier League. The Red Devils were able to react with Fred to Iheanacho’s goal within minutes, but failed to complete the upset, remaining sixth and -3 out of 4. Arsenal, having even lost two more games to them had.

The game

Slowly and with some phases in front of the two hosts, the first 45 minutes at Old Trafford passed, with Manchester United (Cristiano Ronaldo absent due to infection) struggling to make phases forward and the only good moment that had the place, the F Schmeichel fended off with his left foot. At the other end, Leicester seemed to step on the grass better and had their best moment when Barnes’ turn to Madison’s cross from the right went over the right bar.

In the second half, the hosts came into play more strongly but their good streak came to an end in 63′ when the Foxes found the goal, Madison taking an amazing cross from the left and hitting Iheanazzo De Gea with a difficult header to smash the target write 0-1.

Rodgers’ lead didn’t last more than three minutes, however, when the answer came in the 66th minute when Smichel weakly blocked Fernandez’s shot from high in the wide area and Fred scored the rebound to make it 1-1 with a narrow shot from his 100th Premier League appearance with the United shirt.

It got even more exciting in the sequel, in which both teams looked for the coveted second goal and drove the adrenaline through the ranks. Fofana touched it but De Gea denied it with an amazing operation and then the visitors thought they went ahead with Madison’s goal but to take control of the phase from the VAR and an offensive foul from Iheanacho a few seconds too pretend

In the delays it was Rangnik’s players who pressed Leicesters into their frame and closed, but Rodgers’ side persevered and took a great point in the final, robbing two from United that could cost them a Champions League spot in the season finale .
