Manchester United: Work permit blocks Van Persie’s return
Robin van Persie is unlikely to prove he’s a top manager to be granted special leave from the FA to work as Eric ten Hach’s assistant at Manchester United in the new season.
Eric ten Hach’s assumption of technical leadership of Manchester United in the new season has led to discussions about his personality. Both the club and the current Ajax coach wanted a man who knows the ‘Red Devils’ inside out and found him in Robin van Persie.
The veteran striker was signed from Arsenal to United in 2012 and has scored 58 goals in 58 games and celebrated the club’s last league in 2013.
But years ago, Brexit caused problems even in seemingly simple situations. In order to obtain a work permit, the former international Dutchman must meet certain requirements in terms of coaching education and experience.
He took over as assistant coach at Feyenoord in May 2020, having previously been informally appointed as Dick Advocaat’s assistant and overseeing attackers’ training. As of May 2021, he coaches the Dutch club’s K16 while also giving the ‘gift’ to first-team training sessions and watching Arne Slot.
These credentials are not enough to prove he is either a well-known manager or a great managerial talent, allowing the FA to grant him an exemption from the Board of Directors to take up a role in the Premier League (or the EFL), according to the Rules.
Even current United manager Ralph Rangnick, who inspired coaches such as Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel with his huge commitment to the Bundesliga, had to wait before he could convince the federation that he is the federation’s leader.
As a result, United are looking into other cases, such as two former assistants to Alex Ferguson who have since differed in course, former England manager Steve McLaren and manager Rene Mullenstein.

Historic day for Manchester United when British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired 25% of the club’s shares from the Glazer family.
After 13 months of negotiations, Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired 25% of Manchester United’s shares for £1.25 billion (€1.44 billion).
The British billionaire will take charge of the club’s football operations and says he will invest 272 million euros ($300 million) in Old Trafford. At the same time, he made a proposal to acquire a further share of the shares (up to 25%).
In order for the deal to be finalized and formally concluded, it must be approved by all bodies, including the Premier League, as is the case with such deals.

One step away from finalizing an agreement with River Plate is Manchester City, where they are finalizing a deal to acquire 17-year-old Argentina’s next big thing, Claudio Etcheverry, for over €20 million.
Manchester City are investing in young talent and want to do so again like they did with Julián Alvarez. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Citizens have reached an agreement with River Plate to acquire the 17-year-old Claudio Etcheveri.
The world champion will pay the clause in his contract Argentina’s next big thing, which amounts to over 20 million euros.
The two sides are in the final stages of concluding the contract, after which Mr Etceveri will remain on loan at River until the end of the season, when his contract with the club will expire.
Etcheverry shone for Argentina at the U17 World Cup, scoring a hat-trick against Brazil in the quarter-finals.
