Oikonomou: “I couldn’t say no to Sampdoria, we can stay in Serie A”

Marios Oikonomou expressed his excitement about the new step in his career when he spoke to broadcaster Sampdoria a few days after his move, while also expressing his confidence in the Blucherkiati remaining in Serie A.

A few months after his departure from Copenhagen (10/12/22), Marios Economou is ready to return to action and indeed represent a historic Serie A club, Sampdoria, with Dejan Stankovic’s team having a big fight for the Remaining in the series delivered top division (19th and -8 from the relegation line).

He has great confidence in his new team’s potential and showed this clearly through the interview he gave on their official YouTube channel, in which he described being with “Luigi Ferraris” as a challenge for him.

“I got a call, I was free and my manager told me about Sampdoria. There are some players who understand the value of teams and I haven’t had enough time to embrace them. For me it’s a challenge and it’s also a challenge for the team to remain in Serie A.

I couldn’t refuse the offer. There is still a long way to go, 15 games to play and lots of points to get.

I don’t see why the rating shouldn’t be different for a while from now. I see the team well, I see that there is confidence and a nice group”, emphasized the 30-year-old international and added:

“I hope everything goes well. I want to promise to work hard to make myself available to the coach. I’m a defender but I can help wherever it’s needed. I want to show my worth and the team help.”

Sampdoria is a great club, great champions have worn this shirt. The results will come, the fans are close to us, they understand the difficulties and they don’t back down in their support for us.”

Afterwards, the Portuguese technician initially shouted at Kvaratshelias, telling him that he was just acting, but as he approached Georgianos, he hugged him, kissed him and began talking to him in a very calm tone while the two men found each other.
