Who is Giorgos Petrakis who led Kifissia to the great salons?
For a few hours now, Kifissia has been celebrating his historic promotion to the Stoiximan Super League, with Giorgos Petrakis “writing” the greatest success of his career. Who is the 35-year-old coach who led the Northern Suburbs team into the big living room?
It was June 6, 2022 when PAE Kifissia announced the hiring of Giorgos Petrakis. The 35-year-old carried the burden of managing an inexperienced side in Super League 2 (this year was only his second season in it) but that proved no problem at the end of the journey.
Kifissia’s historic rise in the big salons is largely due (also) to his own work, in a year in which he admitted on camera ERT that he himself learned to play championships on an everyday level.
Despite its young age, however, it is not… on the shelves from yesterday. He has already completed a decade as a coach (or rather manager as he is known in the UK) and has shown work and gradual advancements throughout his career.
Lamia’s brief run (in 2020) was the only experience from Super League 1 until a few hours ago, at a time – back then – when he was deciding to make the leap to the big league. Luxembourg (Zenes Es) and Cyprus (Olympiakos Nicosia) follow before the agreement with Kifissia was reached.
The system and the philosophy
For most of this season, Giorgos Petrakis relied on the 3-5-2 as this system can offer the maximum due to the available material but also its philosophy. And so it was, considering Kifisia started Super League 2 on a 10/10 and good football before the break (almost a month and a half) struck and forced the Northern Suburbs team to start all over again.
At the same time as Athens Kallithea used the gap to integrate their (many) young footballers, Kifisia tried to do maintenance and keep the intensity as high as possible.
Last but not least, what Giorgos Petrakis showed as a coach this year was interesting. Not only because he proved that the 3-5-2 system is not purely a defensive system, but also because he combined stability in the back of the field with offensive versatility and efficiency. After all, with a game to go before the season finale, Kifissia has the best attack in Group B, but also the best defense (along with Kalamata).
His coaching influences are numerous. Among them is his father, Yiannis Petrakis, with whom he often talks and exchanges views on football. He admitted as much in a recent interview, even wishing that at some point (in the not too distant future) he would be given the opportunity to… face his father as a rival Stoiximan super league.
In fact, this scenario would become a reality in a few months if misfortune didn’t keep knocking on Levadeiakou’s door (which led to relegation) in the final of the playouts.
Anyway, history was written: Giorgos Petrakis made a big move up his CV – here and a few hours ago. Both for the club and for himself. He took another step forward on a personal level to establish himself in the consciousness of the football community as a coach worthy of being – in this case alongside Kifissia – in the great halls .

An old acquaintance is the successor to Giorgos Simos on the Ionian bench and in the Nice team’s attempt to return to the Stoiximan Super League.
The reason for this was Dimitris Spanos, who sat on the team’s bench and made it to the first division in 2020 after 14 years.

The biography of Dimitris Spanos
Dimitris Spanos was born on July 13, 1969 in Aigio. As a footballer, he played in the 1st national team of Ionikos, in the 2nd national team of Atromito and Paneiyalio and in the 3rd national team of Byzantium Megaron and Anagennisi Artas.
His coaching career began in 2005 when he took over the technical management of Anagennisi Arta and from then on he began a long and successful career. He worked in: Agia Salamina, Rhodes, Panachaiki, Panegialeio, Aeolian Mytilini, Ermionida Union, Lamia, Apollon Smyrna, Panegialeio, Ari and Corfu. With Aris he even celebrated promotion to the Super League, as he was the coach who led the Thessalonians to the big leagues.
The experienced technician took over the management of Ionikos in the summer of 2020 and celebrated promotion to the first league. In fact, his first season in the Super League was extremely successful as the team finished 7th and achieved a record number of points in the play-outs. “He left as a friend in January 2023 and is returning to take the team back to where it belongs”!

Giorgos Simos has left the technical leadership of Ionikos since Wednesday (21/12), with the Nice team’s administration announcing the end of cooperation between the two teams.
Giorgos Simos took over from Ionikos at the start of the season but did not stay at the helm for more than a few months as the Blues’ management announced on Wednesday (21/12) their decision for the two teams to part ways.
“I would like to thank the entire Ionikos family who made me feel like I was a part of it from day one. Of course I would like to thank the players, my partners and the people in the team.”
I wish you all the best, only success and the fulfillment of all your goals”said Giorgos Simos, turning to Ionikos’ family.
“PAE Ionikos announces the mutual agreement to work with coach Giorgos Simos. The coach took over the team at a difficult time, with four tickets fighting to get back on their feet and reach the top of Super League 2, with the only goal being promotion to the first division.
Ionikos’ family feels the need to warmly thank George Simos for the ethics and professionalism he has demonstrated throughout. “Trainers, we wish you health and much personal and professional success,” says the Nice team’s announcement about the end of the collaboration with Simos.
It is noted that after 12 games in the 2nd group of Super League 2, Ionikos is in 6th place and has accumulated 19 points, five less than leaders Athens Kallithea.

Levadeiakos found a replacement for Nikos Nioplia in the person of Sokratis Ofrydopoulos when the Boeotians announced the signing of the 50-year-old Greek technician on Tuesday afternoon (December 19).
Time Socrates Ofrydopoulos and officially for Levadeiakos, with the 50-year-old Greek coach sitting on Viiote’s bench for the remainder of Super League 2.
The former AEK B’ coach replaces Nikos Nioplias, who recently terminated his contract with Levadeiakos.
Ofrydopoulos has not been on the bench since the summer of 2023, when his association with AEK’s second team, which he coached in 46 games, ended.

Sokratis Ofrydopoulos was born on October 26, 1973 and returns to the Levadeiako family after two and a half years, having completed an important journey in Greek football both as a coach and as a player.
He competed on many major league teams for years while working as a coach with Alimos, Lamia (assistant coach) and Atromitos (academy coach). He had two different terms in Panachaiki and also completed Doxa Drama in the previous two years. He was coach of AEK B. In the final of the 2021/22 season he even sat on the bench of AEK’s first team.
His direct partner will be Nikos Karabetakis. Born on May 17, 1971, he served in Iraklis, Doxa Drama, Agrotiko Astera, OFI, Ialyssos and Triglia, while his last stop was Apollon Paralimniou, which he led and achieved to a historic success last year – as a team from the 3rd National – in the quarterfinals of the Greek Cup.
