World Cup 2022: France squad has Benzema, Mbappe along with Giroud and unfit Varane
Olivier Giroud and Raphael Varane are the big decisions of Didier Deschamps, who announced a 2022 World Cup squad with one player down.
THE Didier Deschamps He announced, as usual, with a televised message, the mission for another big event for the France national team, with him on the bench on the 5th.
The important decisions for the 2022 World Cup are diverse and mainly concern their conversion in different cases. One of them, perhaps the most fundamental, concerns Olivier Giroud, Milan’s in-form forward and a key striker in winning the last World Cup in Russia.
The France manager felt there was no place for the 36-year-old forward in the squad but his performances have changed his mind despite the squad being filled with the likes of Karim Benzema, Kylian Mbappe, Christopher Nkunku and Antoine Griezmann. Giroud now has a two-goal chance to overtake Thierry Henry at the top of the country’s top scorer list with 51 goals.
Deschamps also made a change in the case of Raphael Varane, who was included in the squad despite suffering an injury in Manchester United’s game against Chelsea at the end of October, although the France manager said he would not take unprepared players.
Presnel Kibebe, who has suffered intermittent Achilles tendon problems this year, isn’t ready either, but he’s in action too.
Deschamps also showed a change in the case of Teo Hernandez, the long-absent at Euro 2020 despite producing impressive performances in Milan. The 25-year-old Frenchman is in action as the only left-back.
Two of the world’s champions, Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante, are missing from the squad through injury.
Deschamps preferred not to run out of options and took 25 players instead of 26, which is the new FIFA limit.
France are in Group 4 along with Australia, Denmark and Tunisia.

INFANTINO: “If there was no FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world”
FIFA President Gianni Infantino He commented on World Cup ticket prices, saying they reflected “absolutely insane” demand for next summer’s tournament:
“We have six to seven million tickets and in 15 days we received 150 million ticket requests. So every day we have 10 million requests. This shows how strong the World Cup is.”
FIFA has sold just 44 million tickets in almost 100 years of the World Cup. So we were able to sell tickets for the 300th anniversary of the World Cup in two weeks. Just imagine. “This is absolutely crazy.”
Infantino also noted that funds from ticket sales would be reinvested into world football, but did not specify a specific amount:
“The important thing is that the revenue from this goes back into football around the world. If it weren’t for FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world. Football exists thanks to the revenues we get from the World Cup, and we reinvest that into football around the world.”
Previously, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on FIFA to further reduce 2026 World Cup ticket prices.

Secrets of the Real Madrid dressing room: Kroos told how he got along with Vinicius
Former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos He talked about his interaction with Brazilian striker Vinicius Junior and other representatives of Brazil within the scope of the “royal club”.
“The Brazilians aroused my sympathy even as a child. While playing for Real Madrid, I developed excellent relationships with Vinicius, Casemiro and Militao.
It is very easy to find a common language with these guys: they know how to enjoy life, and their mentality is significantly different from that of the Germans.
Casemiro and Vinicius and I understood each other perfectly on the field and developed a unique football bond with Vini.
We communicated warmly in daily life. I believe that if there is no contact between players off the field, it is extremely difficult to achieve harmony in the game.
I used Vini’s high-speed bursts effectively and he masterfully directed my passes,” AS Kroos reports.
Let’s remember that Kroos defended the jersey of Real Madrid from 2014 to 2024. During this decade the German midfielder won the Champions League five times.
