AEK: Zuber sacrificed the World Cup to find himself in the Union
Steven Zuber has decided to drop himself from Switzerland’s World Cup squad in Qatar and sign for AEK to find himself.
With careful management of his body and some extra effort on his part to make up for lost ground due to the two bruises he’s suffered so far this season and the discomfort he still feels in his abs Steven Zuber he could go to the World Cup and compete with Switzerland. However, he believes that this path will not help him to find his lost good self back at AEK later on.
Zuber is wanted and this has been happening to him for months. To make matters worse, he is constantly suffering from muscle injuries, so the World Cup trip is likely to set him back even further. The abdominal problem turns out to be chronic and requires surgery. He decided to stay in Greece to have an operation and will logically not follow the team’s winter training, which Sportish says will take place in the Netherlands.
The Swiss midfielder has made a decision that shows his commitment to AEK and his desire to return to the good performances and help them effectively like at the start of last season. Union spent a very significant sum to buy him from Eintracht Frankfurt and the player shows respect for this investment.
The decision not to go to the World Cup was 100% his own based on his long-term game presence. And it goes without saying that AEK is concerned about the long term. She shared this with Matias Almeida before even informing her Swiss national team coach, Murat Yakin. Of course, the people in the group didn’t exercise the slightest influence on him and left him to choose what he thought was best for himself.
At 31, Zuber knows he probably won’t get a chance to play in another World Cup, so the decision wasn’t easy. Almeida, like everyone working for the team, has clearly applauded this brave decision and will work with him to bring him back to the high level he was before he joined the Union.
In his message, Zuber says: “For a few months I’ve been struggling with an injury that doesn’t allow me to be the player I can be 100%.
The decision to have minor surgery and give up a dream was not easy, but it was the right decision for my health.
Unfortunately, in football you often forget where you are in life and what you’ve already achieved because you’re always being watched and evaluated from game to game.
Football has always given me hope, love and motivation for many things in life. I am grateful for that and will work much harder to get back on the pitch as soon as possible!
Of course, at this moment I will be the biggest fan of the national team so that I can support them in the best possible way.”
With Okafor and the “old guard”
The absence of Zuber didn’t make it difficult for Murat Yakin to find a mission with strong options in attack. From this year on, Noah Okafor, who is having excellent seasons in Salzburg, will also be a force to be reckoned with in the major competitions, while there will always be Haris Seferovic and Xherdan Shaqiri.
Granit Xhaka will wear the captain’s armband, while Ricardo Rodriguez, Jan Sommer (currently injured) and Fabian Frei also bring their experience to the table.

Anatoly TRUBIN: “Rebrov decided to sacrifice him”
Goalkeeper of the Ukrainian national team Anatoly Trubin I remembered the match against France (0:4) when Sergei Rebrov released the semi-reserve squad.
“It was the coach’s choice. It is always the coach who decides whether the match will be sacrificed or not. If we talk about the challenge itself, we all understand the strength of France. I understood that there could be a lot of shots, there could be a lot of chances, and I was ready for it. When the opponent is always with the ball, constantly attacking, you are always in the game: you play in sections, you react, you constantly feel the rhythm.
For me personally, it’s even easier than when your team is attacking most of the time and you’re standing idle and suddenly there’s a moment where you have to be ready,” Trubin said.

INFANTINO: “If there was no FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world”
FIFA President Gianni Infantino He commented on World Cup ticket prices, saying they reflected “absolutely insane” demand for next summer’s tournament:
“We have six to seven million tickets and in 15 days we received 150 million ticket requests. So every day we have 10 million requests. This shows how strong the World Cup is.”
FIFA has sold just 44 million tickets in almost 100 years of the World Cup. So we were able to sell tickets for the 300th anniversary of the World Cup in two weeks. Just imagine. “This is absolutely crazy.”
Infantino also noted that funds from ticket sales would be reinvested into world football, but did not specify a specific amount:
“The important thing is that the revenue from this goes back into football around the world. If it weren’t for FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world. Football exists thanks to the revenues we get from the World Cup, and we reinvest that into football around the world.”
Previously, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on FIFA to further reduce 2026 World Cup ticket prices.
