Thanasis Stavrakis, what were your thoughts when you took the most viral photo of the World Cup?
Oneman.gr spoke to Greek photojournalist Thanasis Stavrakis, who was at the stadiums in Qatar and managed to capture some of the most stunning footage of the event.
The referee blows his whistle to end extra time. Argentina and the Netherlands will battle it out in a grueling penalty shootout for a place in the semi-finals of the World Cup. One of the people watching the game live in Qatar is Thanasis Stavrakis. Only he is not there to enjoy the game, but to take pictures for the international agency Associated Press.
The process begins. The Dutch missed the first penalty. You also lose the second. The Argentines are one step away from qualifying. Lautaro Martinez puts the ball on from eleven meters, deceives in the penultimate step and hits the goal. And while most would think Argentina internationals would hug their compatriot, they begin to celebrate in front of the Dutch, who have fallen to their knees.
