RBU will send a letter to the IBU regarding the suspension of Russian biathletes

The Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) will send a letter to the International Biathlon Union (IBU) on September 8 regarding the removal of Russian athletes from tournaments under the auspices of the organization. RIA Novosti Sport was informed about this by the head of the RRF Viktor Maygurov.

Earlier, Russian biathletes were suspended from international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.

– On the one hand, we dispute the legal status of those decisions that were taken against us. On the other hand, we want to say that the leaders of the IBU should first of all think about the athletes whose fate they are preparing to decide.

It is the athletes who suffer, although they are in no way connected with what is happening in the world. We also want to draw the attention of IBU congress members to other sports – for example, two Russians are playing in the quarterfinals of the US Open in New York right now. How did this interfere with world tennis? Our main initiative is the revision of the IBU spring decisions, the possibility of participation of Russian biathletes in international competitions. Anything else violates the Olympic Charter, in which sport is clearly out of politics, Maigurov said.

Ishmuratova – about appealing to CAS to remove biathletes: “The chances are low, but it’s better to do something than wait for manna from heaven”

Two-time Olympic biathlon champion Svetlana Ishmuratova told Match TV that the appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the exclusion of Russian biathletes from international competitions is unlikely to be satisfied, but we must hope for the best.

Earlier, the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyarev said that the Russian side would appeal to CAS on December 10 due to the removal of biathletes from international competitions.

Russians have not been allowed to compete under the auspices of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) since 2022.

— Will contacting CAS bring us a positive result?

“Of course, there are very few chances here, but it’s better to try to do something than just sit and wait for manna from heaven.” As they say, hope dies last – we’ll see,” Ishmuratova told Match TV.
