Canada won the bronze medal in the mixed team ski jumping event at the Beijing Olympics.
The Canadian team made up of Alexandria Loutitt, Matthew Soukup, Abigail Strate and Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes gave an excellent performance to reach the podium in the first presentation of such an event at the Olympic Games.
Under this format, Canada went into their final jump with an 18-point lead over the Japanese who followed in the fourth echelon.
The latter executed their jump on the springboard first and Olympic champion Ryoyu Kobayashi put the pressure on the Maple Leaf with a jump that earned him 137.5 points from the judges. Japan was ahead of Canada by 120 points in the standings.
Boyd-Clowes responded with a bang covering a distance of 101.5 meters to receive a score of 128.1 points and secure a podium spot for the Canadians.
Canada finished the competition with a total of 844.6 points. Slovenia flew through this event with 1001.5 points for the gold medal. Athletes from the Russian Olympic Committee received the silver medal with 890.3 points.
