ZHANGJIAKOU, China – Quebecer Audrey McManiman posted the 13th time during the qualifying session for the snowboard cross round of 16 at the Beijing Olympics on Wednesday.
McManiman, a native of Saint-Charles-Borromée, took 13th place thanks to her descent of 1:24.98 minutes. In the round of 16, she will cross swords with the American Stacy Gaskill (4th place), the German Jana Fischer (20th place) and the Italian Sofia Belingheri (29th place).
British Columbian Meryeta Odine was the top Canadian. She produced the 3rd fastest time in qualifying with a time of 1:23.01. She will face Australian Josie Baff (ranked 14), ROC athlete Alexandra Parshina (ranked 19) and China’s He Feng (ranked 30) in the round of 16.
The classification session took place in a time trial format. The 32 snowboarders obtained their ticket for the round of 16.
In the round of 16, the races will pit four riders against each other. The first two to cross the finish line will qualify for the quarter-finals.
The other Canadians in the running, Zoe Bergermann and Tess Critchlow finished 24th and 26th respectively.
Italian Michela Moioli set the best time of the day with a time of 1:22.19.
