Quebecer Kim Boutin fell just before qualifying for the quarter-finals of the 1000m at the Beijing Olympics.

Boutin was on his way to easily getting his ticket for the next round after taking the lead in his heat. Coming out of the last corner before crossing the finish line, the skater from Sherbrooke lost her balance and fell onto the ice.

The 27-year-old athlete thus saw her competition end on a sad note, she who was certainly hoping to add to her harvest of four Olympic medals after winning bronze in the 500m earlier at these Olympics.

Boutin won silver in the 1000m at the PyeongChang Olympics.

Boutin’s compatriot Courtney Sarault had no problem advancing to the quarter-finals by finishing first in her heat.

Alyson Charles benefited from the penalty awarded to the French Tifany Huot Marchand to advance to the quarter-finals.
