The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), seized by international sports authorities after the lifting of the suspension by Russian anti-doping of skater Kamila Valieva, will render its decision on Monday, he announced in a press release.

The hearing of the CAS ad-hoc chamber will take place by videoconference on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. Beijing time, the CAS said.

“Following the hearing, the jury will deliberate and prepare its decision. It is expected that this decision will be notified to the parties concerned on Monday afternoon,” the CAS added.

Valieva, 15 years old and already crowned Olympic team champion in Beijing, was the subject of a positive doping control for trimetazidine, used to treat angina pectoris, at the end of December by the Russian anti-doping agency (Rusada) which n received the notification of this positive result of this control only Tuesday.

Rusada immediately temporarily suspended the skater, titled the day before with the Russian team in Beijing. But on Wednesday, Valieva appealed and obtained the lifting of her suspension, for still mysterious reasons, which allows her to continue to participate in the Games and to train, as she did again this Saturday. The situation will be watched closely by Canada as the Russians finished first in the team event and the Maple Leaf representatives just off the podium.

The ITA, the body in charge of anti-doping controls during the Games and the International Olympic Committee, initially, then joined by the International Skating Federation (ISU), as the CAS said on Saturday, announced a appeal to the CAS, to obtain a decision before Tuesday, February 15, the day of the women’s short program.
