“Since the Olympic champion decided so, then it will be so” – Turyshev on Ustyugov’s decision to change his coach

Former coach of the Russian national ski team Sergei Turyshev reacted to the decision of the Olympic champion Sergei Ustyugov to leave the team of the coach of the national team Yegor Sorin.

Earlier, Ustyugov admitted that he had a misunderstanding with the coach, and after several comments addressed to him, he decided to leave. In the off-season, Ustyugov joined Yegor Sorin’s team after coach Markus Kramer left the Russian national team, but the athlete continues to train according to the plans of the German specialist.

– I take this calmly, I’m not interested in the reasons why he made certain decisions. Since the Olympic champion decided so, then it will be so. Ustyugov expressed a desire to train with our team according to Kramer’s plans – for God’s sake. While I have not yet met him personally, I will do it at the end of July in Malinovka, where our team is holding training camps. We will discuss how he sees cooperation with our team.

Since Sergey Ustyugov is preparing for the season, especially with the district team, he will definitely run. If Sergei did not want to go to the starts at all, he would not even start summer training. Does he have nothing to do at home? The son was just born, the daughter is still small. But he endures, plows, wanders around the camps. I am sure that he will perform at all starts, – quotes Turyshev “Championship”.

The President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU), Viktor Maigurov, and the coach of the Russian synchronized swimming team, Gana Maksimova, are included in the database of the Ukrainian website “Peacemaker”*, as evidenced by the resource data.

They are charged with an attempt on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. It is noted that in 2025, Maygurov and Maksimova met with the director of the sports training center for Russian national teams (then acting director) Roman Grishin.

A two-time Olympic medalist and three-time world champion in biathlon, Maigurov has headed the RBU since 2020.
