“In Europe, people, excuse me, have nothing to eat and nothing to heat their houses with.” The State Duma proposed to move the 2024 Olympics to Russia

Dmitry Svishchev, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports, believes that France cannot afford to host the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, so it is better to move the competition to Russia.

The Summer Olympic Games in Paris are due to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. Earlier it was reported about the budget deficit and the departure of a number of sponsors. Sports officials are worried that the Games may not take place.

– In Europe, people, excuse me, have nothing to eat and nothing to heat their houses with. In this situation, it is absolutely logical to hear about serious problems in preparation for the Olympic Games. It seems to me that they need to prioritize correctly: do they want to spend a quality holiday or still find money to heat their houses? Judging by the foreign policy of France, they will not have money in the next decade. It turns out that the only option is to hold the 2024 Games sparsely, modestly, saving on everything and much lowering the bar we set when organizing the Olympics in Sochi and other major sporting events.

Especially now the cost of the organization is rising every day, we see it on the news from Europe. And if they still manage to find money, then the people of their politicians will not understand: they will be outraged why the temperature of the water in the Olympic pool will be higher than the temperature of the water at home. You know how sensitive the Europeans are to this.

Therefore, I urge our European colleagues to once again soberly assess the situation. If they can’t afford to hold the Olympic Games, let them refuse. And even better: let them go to the Russian Olympic Committee and ask them to lend them a helping hand, taking over the organization of the 2024 Games. I think that we have every opportunity to organize the Olympic Games in the best possible way. The infrastructure is there, the opportunities are there, the experience is there, the desire is there too. Why not? Once again, we will extend a helping hand to Europe, we will save them, ”Match TV quotes Svishchev as saying.
