Handball premier: AEK won the derby with Doukas, Olympiacos Piraeus remained unbeaten

AEK managed to win the derby with Doukas 31-30, while Olympiacos continued their unbeaten streak in the Handball Premier.

A great game took place in Byron, with AEK taking two valuable points 31-30 against the particularly combative Doukas, who came close to a positive result, showing that their previous unbeaten streak was no fluke.

The Union started the game ideally, leading 5:0 (5th), 7:1 (7th), 11:5 (12th) and was dominant, then with 17:11 (26th) and 18:14 at halftime.

Doukas carried out a counterattack in the second half and, after AEK’s 19:14, scored a 4-0 run in the 38th minute to make it 19:18, while in the 41st minute the equalizer was 20:20 with a partial score of 6-1 defeat and the chance to take the lead when Matskevic stopped Zibulovic’s penalty in the 43rd minute when the score was 21:21.

Then the game went goal-goal, with AEK being cooler at the break of 53:58 and 28:27 becoming a score of 31:27.

Doukas tried to turn things around and made it 31:30 with a 3-0 run, but AEK kept the lead and the victory because he had the ball in the last 30 seconds.

Olympiacos scored 6/6

Without the injured Savvas, but with polyphony in attack (11 of the 14 players on the field scored), Olympiacos SF/Omilos Xini easily defeated Aeropos Edessa 31-24 and continued with the absolute 6/6 in the Handball Premier.

The “Red and Whites” now sit at the top of the league with AEK with 12 points and the winter champions will, it seems, be decided between them in the postponed December derby.

Stelios Seirekidis’ debut on the PAOK bench was successful as he comfortably won 32:22 against Panhellenic on matchday 7 of the Handball Premier in Kypseli.

Bianco Monte Drama scored a big “double” over Ionian Affidea 28-26 in New Philadelphia. The guests maintained their 5th place with 8 points and showed in another game that they are a homogeneous team that will take a leading role in the championship this year.

Ionikos, on the other hand, was far from a positive result in another game and has now suffered 6 defeats in a row and remains at the bottom of the table.

On Drama’s side, international right winger Achilleas Toskas scored 9 goals, reaching 50 in the league.
Ionikos came into the game after 10:16 (33rd) and 19:23 (46th) and equalized the score at 23:23 after 52nd minute, but Drama reacted and found the solution for 24:26 (54th) and secured victory.

Big surprise – victory for Diomedes Argos with 26-23 over AESCH Pylaia in Thessaloniki. The hosts were dominant in the first half, but also until the 39th minute. With an excellent 10 minutes (20-30), Pylaia turned from 8-7 to 14-9 with an individual score of 6-2, while the Argos team reduced to the half-time score (14-10) thanks to a goal from Asvestas.

At the beginning of the second half, specifically in the 39th minute, Pylaia increased the difference again to 5 goals (18-13).
From that point on, Diomedes Argos was the game’s boss, which drastically changed his image.

First it shortened it to 18:17 (43rd) with a 4-0 run, then equalized to 19:19 (48th). In the 52nd minute it led by +2 (20-22) and in the 57th In the third minute it tied the match as it escaped with +3 (21-24), resulting in an impressive individual score of 11-3!

Nothing changed in the last few minutes and the guests celebrated a great double victory with 26:23 and at the same time their 4th win in a row, which puts them on equal points with Doukas (11) in 3rd place.

Zafeirakis Naoussa continued his excellent season and defeated GAS Kilkis 24:21 on matchday 7.

The team from Naoussa remained in 6th place with 8 points and has moved far away from the teams that will fight for survival, such as GAS Kilkis, who are looking for their first win in the league in the next games.

Mylonas announced that he is ending his career at the age of 28

International left midfielder Christos Mylonas announced his decision to retire from action following another serious injury.

Christos Mylonas made the decision to end his sports career when he was just 28 years old.

For our international left winger, it was decided that the men’s national team matches in the EURO 2024 final, which will be played in Germany in January, would be the last of his career.

Unfortunately, he didn’t have time to realize his dream and take part in a major event with the “Blue and Whites” that he and his teammates had worked for years to make happen.
they come true.

His serious injury (complete anterior cruciate ligament rupture) in the game between ASE Doukas and Diomedes Argos for the handball premiership forced him to an even premature end to his short-lived, great and award-winning career.

Christos Mylonas has played in all minor national teams, while he made his men’s national team debut in June 2014 in the 2015 World Cup play-offs against North Macedonia. He played a total of 54 games and scored 152 goals and is on the list of all-time top scorers.

His speed, his leadership qualities in his first year, his intelligence as well as the quality of his character were elements that made him special and one of the leading Greek handball players of all time.

At the collective level, in his 11 seasons in the handball premiership, Christos Mylonas managed to score 650 goals in 218 games and win the treble (championship, cup, European Cup) and a championship in 2021
in 2020 with AEK, where he is the sixth all-time goalscorer with 477 goals, was named league MVP in 2021, was voted the best left winger in two seasons (2020-2001, 2021-2022), and scored 194 goals in European competitions.

He started his career at Anagennisi Byron (2004-2010), moved on to Doukas (2010-2013), returned to Anagennisi (2013-2015) to help them in the big division, moved to again (2015-2016). Diomedes (2016). -2017) at Doukas, followed by a 5-year stay (2017-2018) at AEK. Last season he played in the 2nd Bundesliga
with the Elbflorence Dresden jersey and this year he returned again to Doukas, who he helped to become a star at the handball premiere.

Christos Mylonas underwent surgery today together with his wife, beach handball world champion Apostolina Dimitriou, to heal his injury.

The entire association, the board, the employees and the press office wish him a speedy recovery and continued success in everything he wants to do in his life.

In particular, the President of the OHE Kostas Gandis stated: “The gap that Christos Mylonas will leave in Greek handball is not just a gap in competition, because he is a charismatic athlete, a star in the national team and in all the clubs he has played for.”

We will miss him above all for the values and ethos with which he led the sport over the years. A child with a diamond character – a role model who never caused problems and was always there for our national teams. It is unfair that Christos will not be with our national team at the EURO, our team’s first participation in a major competition in 19 years.

Unfortunately, there are also bad moments in sport. We are sure he still has a lot to offer the sport and the national team, but we fully respect his decision. As a representative of the entire board of the association and, in my opinion, as an expression of the entire sport, I would like to thank him for what he has offered and wish him all the best
Many successes throughout his life and family happiness with his wife and also our athlete Apostolina Dimitriou. OCHE will honor Christos Mylonas for his great contribution to sport in a special event.”
