Bob Hartley admitted that he misses the rivalry between the hockey teams of Russia and Canada

Former Avangard head coach Bob Hartley said he misses the Russian national hockey team on the world stage.

On Friday, the participants of the congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in Belek, Turkey, voted that the national teams of Russia and Belarus should return to the system no earlier than in the 2023/24 season, retaining their place in the elite.

– If we are talking about the youth world championship or just the world championship, Russia is one of the largest hockey nations, – said Match TV. – Everyone wants to compete with her, fight in a head-to-head match.

I am Canadian and I always look forward to my team playing against the big hockey nations. Because from year to year I see how players change, what new coaches come up with. And it’s a great hockey rivalry.

Bob Hartley has led Avangard for the past four years and led them to a Gagarin Cup victory in 2021. In early May, Dmitry Ryabykin replaced him in this post.

The NHL has announced the revival of the World Cup in 2024. At least eight national teams will take part in the tournament, and games will be played in North America and Europe. According to NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly, “there is still uncertainty about the possibility of Russia’s participation in the World Cup.”
