The US national team has long been entering the world elite, being considered a contender for medals at every major tournament.

However, at the World Cup in Sweden, the Americans failed and left the competition, without winning a single victory.

The history of the world championships can be divided into two large periods, where the border is 1977, when the NHL players were able to become full participants in the national team tournaments. Such a weak performance led to the fact that the United States lost their place in the elite division of the World Cup and next year were forced to fight for the right to return. Since then, a lot of water has flowed, the regular use of NHL players helps to avoid such shameful performances, but in the USA they still prefer not to talk about the iconic failure of 1969.
