Former head coach of the Russian hockey team Vladimir Plyushchev in a conversation with Match TV answered the question of the possible coaching career of Washington captain Alexander Ovechkin.

As I understand it, now he has entered the training process and also received some injury. Therefore, I think, it is up to him.

– In your opinion, could Ovechkin become a good coach?

– Firstly, he must be asked, he would like to deal with this issue. And secondly, here the question is quite complicated, because not every outstanding player has become at least even the average level by the coach. We have millions of examples when players who simply shone and sparkled, sometimes took up this business, did not succeed, and then many did not even undertake. Because it is one thing to be a player on the site and play, another is to teach others. This is difficult, ”said Poyshchev“ Match TV ”.

The Russian contract with Washington expires at the end of the season -2025/26. In April, the striker broke the Wayne Gretzki record (894) for the number of goals in the NHL regular seasons, Ovechkin’s account 897 washers.
