Washington captain Alexander Ovechkin was the first to shake hands with Los Angeles captain Anze Kopitar and congratulate the Slovenian on his “amazing career” after the end of the NHL regular season match.

The meeting took place in California and ended in a victory for the Capitals with a score of 3:1. 40-year-old Ovechkin scored two assists. Kopitar, 38, made one assist. The Slovenian is in his final season in the league.

This was the last game between the teams in the regular season of the 2025/26 season. After the match ended, all Washington players came out onto the ice to greet Kopitar.

Junior World Hockey Championship. Calendar and match results

Traditionally, one of the most interesting hockey tournaments of the year begins – the U-20 World Junior Championship in the elite league. The tournament will take place in the USA from December 26 to January 5.

The American team will defend the title it won in Canada a year ago. However, Maple will try to heal herself after the failure.

The teams are divided into two groups of 5 teams, the top 4 will advance to the play-offs and the last two will compete for survival among the elite.
