Leading the NHL in the East remains Carolina, which beat Philadelphia and won its third straight game, but the New York Islanders unexpectedly moved into the top 2.

The New York Islanders defeated Tampa Bay and snapped a five-game home winning streak. And Matthew Schaefer, the first overall pick in the 2025 Draft, scored his ninth goal of the season.

A leaders’ match took place as part of the Ukrainian Hockey Championship – the current champion Kremenchuk hosted Sokol as part of the festive meeting at Christmas.

The match ended with Kremenchuk scoring 4:1, and the match was abandoned twice due to air raids.

At the same time, the home team lost 0:1, but they scored two goals on the power play in the second period and eventually hit an empty net. Vitaly Lyalka scored a double goal.

While Sokol finishes 2025 as the leader, Kremenchuk is one point behind and has a game in hand.

Junior World Hockey Championship. Calendar and match results

Traditionally, one of the most interesting hockey tournaments of the year begins – the U-20 World Junior Championship in the elite league. The tournament will take place in the USA from December 26 to January 5.

The American team will defend the title it won in Canada a year ago. However, Maple will try to heal herself after the failure.

The teams are divided into two groups of 5 teams, the top 4 will advance to the play-offs and the last two will compete for survival among the elite.
