Hockey player “Torpedo” Darin said that Larionov gives the team a unique style of play and “inculcates dominance”

Forward “Torpedo” Alexander Darin admitted that he had never played the kind of hockey that head coach Igor Larionov puts on the Nizhny Novgorod team.

The two-time Olympic champion headed the club’s coaching staff in the off-season.

– Igor Nikolaevich Larionov is probably my first coach who promotes such a different kind of hockey. I have never had this. No throws, play only with the puck, under each other, short pass. This has never happened in my experience. For the first time, hockey is instilled only with the puck, such dominance that you need to dictate your own rules. The whole team likes it very much, everyone enjoys it. Most importantly, he requires us to have fun. Hockey is a game, not a job. This is the main thing he teaches us.

In the preseason, we had everything in moderation. They came, passed the tests, he looked at our condition – and began work. He corrected our condition: somewhere individually, somewhere he added a little more hall, somewhere a little more land. I really liked it, I liked this pre-season. They did what was necessary, all the most important, – quotes the words of Darin “Championship”.

The new KHL season starts on September 1st.
