The tone of the fight was set by the effective actions of the experienced Andrey Mikhnov. The Ukrainian hockey championship match took place between the leaders Kremenchug and Sokol.

Detroit defeated Toronto 2-1 in overtime in a tense NHL regular season game to once again move the East into a tie with three teams tied on points.
The Red Wings, Tampa Bay and Carolina each have 66 points.
