The example of the Russian racer Nikita Mazepin, who appealed against the EU sanctions, may be followed by other Russian athletes, sports lawyer Anna Antseliovich believes.
On Thursday, the court ruled that Mazepin has the right to enter the EU to negotiate and conclude agreements with a racing team or with sponsors not associated with his father, Dmitry Mazepin, “as a main or reserve driver of Formula 1 or other series held by under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA)”, to participate in races, sponsorships and promotions at the request of its racing team or sponsors, as well as to participate in championships, Grand Prix, races, training sessions, tests in EU Member States.
– Other Russian athletes may well follow the example of Mazepin. Although first you need to study the text of the decision and understand the motives for it. Apparently, in this situation we are talking about the realization of the right to work. That is, Nikita was deprived of the opportunity to perform professional duties: being on the EU sanctions lists did not allow the racer to sign contracts. This situation can really serve as an example for all Russian athletes. They also have the opportunity to challenge the verdicts of their federations, said Antseliovich RT.
Mazepin came under EU sanctions a year ago. He was a driver for the Haas team in the 2021 season and finished 21st in the final standings. In March 2022, it was announced that the team would end their partnership with him.
This season, Mazepin participates in the Asian Le Mans Series.

Oliver Solberg takes honorary record and Monte Carlo Rally from Ogier
Swedish Toyota driver Oliver Solberg This Sunday, at 24 years, 2 months and 2 days old, he became the youngest winner of the legendary Monte Carlo Rally, dethroning teammate British Elfyn Evans and nine-time world champion Frenchman Sébastien Ogier and taking the Monte Carlo precocious record, which he had held since 2009, with just one year to go.
The Swede, who competes in Rally 1, the highest category of the World Rally Championship (WRC), for Toyota and is participating in his first rally in his first season, achieved an overwhelming victory with his co-driver. Elliott Edmonson The race spanned four days and had 17 stages from start to finish, with six partial wins on stages 2, 4, 6, 7, 11 and 12, with Ogier winning four, Evans three, and Fourmaux and Fontana two.
son of Petter Solberg The 2003 World Rally Champion experienced one of the most complex editions in recent years, with lots of snow and ice and overcoming several setbacks, including an “excursion” into the meadows and a spin on the first pass of the Col de Turini. But nothing could stop Solberg. Solberg became the world championship leader for the first time, five points ahead of Evans and 12 points ahead of defending champion Ogier.
He quickly took the lead in the provisional overall standings and did not relinquish his position, whether in specials on wet, icy, snowy or foggy roads in the Southern Alps, or in the ‘super special’ on sections of the F1 street circuit in Monaco.
Although he started Sunday with a comfortable lead of more than a minute, Solberg’s path to glory was briefly threatened during the second stage of the morning. On the icy hairpin of La Borene Vesbie, he found himself trapped and overshot his GR Yaris Rally1, momentarily going in the opposite direction. He quickly recovered and regained his composure on the power stage of Col de Turini, although he only lost a few seconds.
“I don’t understand it right now. It’s another emotional day. This was the most difficult rally of my life. It’s my first time rallying on asphalt with a car, but here I am winning. I would like to say a huge thank you to Toyota for their faith. The teamwork was exceptional,” explained the young Solberg.
Next to Solberg, Elfyn Evans secured second place overall by 51.8 points thanks to a perfect final day in which he fought off relentless pressure from Sébastien Ogier and scored more Super Sunday points than any other Rally 1 driver.
Ogier, a 10-time Monte Carlo winner, finished in 1 minute 10.4 seconds, but admitted he had no answer to his teammate’s pace in the ever-changing conditions.
The championship resumes with Rally Sweden (February 12-15). Rally Sweden is the season’s only pure winter event, with crews venturing through the frozen forests around Umeå.

VIDEO. F1 pilot lost control during testing at Ferrari track
Oliver Berman and the Haas team suffered an unfortunate incident during the first run of the new Haas VF-26 at Ferrari’s Fiorano circuit.
The British pilot was spinning at low speed but was able to continue the race, unlike Racing Bulls’ Arvid Lindblad.
Haas becomes the seventh team to field its 2026 car ahead of official testing in Barcelona; McLaren, Red Bull, Aston Martin and Williams have yet to do this.

Charles Leclerc reveals details of Ferrari’s first test in 2026
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc confirmed that the team did not encounter any serious problems during the races of the new Ferrari SF-26 car.
On Friday morning, the Maranello team unveiled its first car under the 2026 Formula 1 rules at the Fiorano test track. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc took a spin behind the wheel of the new car.
Since the races were held on wet asphalt, Hamilton was the first to hit the track in difficult weather conditions. Despite this, hundreds of tifosi gathered in Fiorano a few hours before the presentation to watch the SF-26’s debut live.
Leclerc took the wheel after Hamilton, but the Monegasque admitted that he could not fully feel the car’s behavior due to limited mileage and weather conditions. But the main task of the day was completed – the car started stably.
“Yes, I look forward to this day every year. The main aim is to make sure that everything works correctly and there are no major problems. That’s exactly what happened today, so it’s a positive thing,” Leclerc said.
According to Charles, it is too early to talk about the speed or feel of the car:
“From a performance perspective, it is too early to draw any conclusions. The conditions were not the best: fog and a wet track. This is not an ideal scenario for the first test.”
“It was very exciting because there is a huge amount of work behind it. It’s important to see real sensor data for the first time and make sure the car behaves as we expect it to.”
