Dixon wins at Sepang; crash leads to major change in leadership
In his farewell Moto2 campaign to become the new Honda HRC rider in the World Superbike Championship, British Jake Dixon took his third win of the year ahead of David Alonso and Barry Baltas, with a dramatic change in leadership with just two laps to go. Manu Gonzalez returned to the ground and handed over the lead to Moreira in fifth place, nine points behind with two races remaining. Next year’s LCR Honda MotoGP rider, the Brazilian will already compete in the next stage, Portimao.
From pole position, rookie Dani Holgado maintained his position ahead of Arenas, Dixon and Alonso, with Gonzalez in 6th and Moreira in 15th. With three matches remaining, González and Moreira already finished in fifth and sixth place, eight tenths of a second apart. However, just as he reached turn 15, “Manugas” crashed, handing the lead to Moreira, who took the lead for the first time in the championship with two races remaining.
