new leader
Nasser started in second place overall, just over three minutes behind Genk. late gunhad so far shown to be very strong toyota. but Nasser made it clear to the South Africans that if they want to win this Dakar, they cannot allow themselves to have weak days.. Al-Attiyah are finding the stability they need and this Friday they attacked with all their might, taking advantage of Lategan’s bad day as he started immediately after Nasser, but were unable to keep up with his devilish pace.
Nasser won the stage and now has 49 special victories in the Dakar, so with seven special victories remaining this time.he not only has a shot to match; historical record Percentage of stage wins they share Vatanen and Peterhansel. We were able to exceed that.
Of course, that will depend on how far his rivals push him to the limit and whether he needs to attack like he did today or if he wants to avoid opening the track.

Nani Roma ended the first week of the rally in very good shape, taking the fourth stage position with a time of 5 minutes 31 seconds and surviving the battle.
Nani Roma has already reached the podium by taking risks
This Friday, Nani Roma faced a difficult challenge. He had to start second on the track, but it didn’t take him long to overtake him. GuthrieIt started just before. He spent most of the sixth stage on an open track, with no track but his bike, and he was following a completely different line than the bike. That means there’s a greater risk of being surprised by carved dunes for those cutting trails. But that didn’t matter to Folgerol’s man and his co-pilot. “Òdena Compass”, Alex Haro.
Nani and Alex recognized that this step was the key to their aspirations and pushed themselves to their limits. If you waste too much time, you may drift far away. but They embroidered it.
In this way, Nani finished ahead of Ekström in the overall standings, finishing on the podium in third place, 9 minutes and 13 seconds behind the leader and just under three minutes behind second-placed Henk Lategan.. Nasser currently leads Toyota’s South African by 6 minutes and 10 seconds. And the world still has at least seven stages and thousands of hazards to overcome on the way to Yanbu, where the world’s toughest rally ends on January 17th.
“We pushed really hard. We tried to save the day as much as we could, but it was difficult. We were really starry-eyed today.” As Roma reached the finish line, he described the impact he received on the dunes. “I’ve been trying to push as much as I can, to the limit, to minimize the time loss due to opening the track. I’m happy. You can always improve, but the car is great. We had a great set-up to push today.” It was a very positive week. It can be improved in small details. Today I took the lead and said, “Push as hard as you can.”. “I gave it my all when the court was open, so I’m satisfied.” Argument.
“I’ve pushed harder than ever before. I’ve taken a lot of risks. I’m tired today. It’s been very hard, but I’m happy to be here.”And so Folgerol concluded his article.
Sainz gave up something, but he’s still there
Sainzdespite starting from a better position than Nani Roma (from sixth place in the starting order), he was unable to cut the time he had hoped due to “some navigational issues”. The Spaniard was able to minimize damage to the leaders and finished in seventh place, 6 minutes and 33 seconds behind the day’s winner Al-Attiyah. With this, “Matador” overtook teammate Ekström (5th place in 12 minutes 11 seconds) to take 4th place overall, still in contention, 11 minutes 49 seconds behind the new leader.

“I ran at a good pace and didn’t lose much time. What are my plans for the future? Rest, eat some good food, and chat with all the drivers…”he said before the final finish of the special, a 300km link that must be completed before reaching Riyadh.

In that respect, robe He finished second on the stage and moved up to sixth in class with a time of 17 minutes 36 seconds, but was well behind by the time he arrived on his well-deserved rest day.

VERSTAPPEN: Red Bull’s advantage? “I will not explain this”
Max Verstappen has said he does not pay much attention to rumors that some teams may have possible technical advantages in their new Formula 1 power units.
It has recently been claimed that Mercedes and Red Bull have found a way to further increase engine power, while other teams are trying to eliminate this possible advantage. The FIA will meet with power unit manufacturers on January 22 to discuss the issue before the season starts.
Rumor has it that such optimization could produce around 15 hp, which is a significant figure at the beginning of a new era in technical regulations.
When asked whether Red Bull had an advantage in the pre-season, Verstappen replied:
“It’s impossible to know. Everyone is trying to do the best they can and I, especially me, have to focus on driving the car. I’m not here to be an engine engineer and explain all the details. Ultimately, this is a matter between the FIA and the engine manufacturers. I drive the car and I believe we always do everything we can to get the best out of the engine.”

“We will be left behind.” Verstappen won’t like Red Bull’s situation
Red Bull Formula 1 team president Laurent Mekies believes the Bulls will be behind their rivals at the start of the 2026 season, given the production of their engines and new aerodynamic rules.
“We know it will be difficult for us, especially at the beginning of the season. I think we will fall behind our rivals, but we need to hold on for a few more months.”
“I hope we come back to the top, but it would be naive to think that Red Bull will be ahead right away. We will be behind at the start,” said Mekis.
Bulls will produce its engines in collaboration with Ford from 2026.

Red Bull finally decides on Verstappen’s team
After several significant personnel changes in the team, Max Verstappen has finally learned who he will be working with in the Red Bull pits for the new season.
At the end of last year, it became known that three key members of the four-time world champion’s headquarters had left. According to De Telegraaf, Jeff Ayton replaced Verstappen’s vehicle control engineer Michael Manning, who left the team after the 2025 season. He has previously worked with other Red Bull drivers and worked temporarily with Verstappen in Manning’s absence last year.
Verstappen’s former engine mechanic David Mart has moved to Audi and his replacement at Red Bull has not yet been determined. Performance engineer Tom Hart is also leaving the team; He will join Williams but will continue to work with the Milton Keynes-based team for a while.
Changes also occurred among mechanics. After Matt Culler moved to the position of Audi’s chief mechanic, Verstappen was replaced as his first mechanic by his twin brother John Culler. He is well known to Max, who has previously held a similar position on the other side of the Red Bull pits, working alongside Sergio Perez, Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda.
Despite rumors about the winter break, Gianpiero Lambiase will remain Verstappen’s race engineer for another season.
