How did Fernando Alonso do in Great Britain?

Alpine

Silverstone has something special that makes it a magical circuit. The old military airfield is one of the fastest tracks on the calendar, not so much because of its long straights, but because of its curves. The brake is rarely pressed, but here the hands matter, and a lot, because they make the difference in timing. Fernando Alonso has been proven year after year in British Grand Prix.

However, his start on English soil was not easy. In his first race he struggled a lot, qualified last and was three laps behind the leader and one behind the next in the standings. In 2003 Jarno Trulli came second qualitative while Alonso only managed to finish eighth, retiring from the race with a gearbox problem. The following year Renault inexplicably dropped in performance and could only finish 10th.

The joy has begun 2005 and it is that year he achieved his first three pole position in Silverstone. In fact, the English circuit is where the Spanish rider has managed to lead the classification the most times, something remarkable that reflects his control of the track. Between 2005 and 2014 he only lost two points, in 2009 for performance and in 2010 for punishment with drive through after passing Kubica off the track. In that time, Alonso achieved two wins (2006 and 2011) and six podium finishes (2005, 2007, 2012 and 2013).

From then on, luck didn’t play much on his side, which coincided with a return to McLaren. Although he scored twice (2015 and 2018), he suffered two abandonments in the other two visits.

There are reasons to trust the Spaniard in 2022 after his display last year during the race I run and for which the seventh place on Sunday.
