Vettel to retire from Formula 1 at the end of the 2022 season

Sebastian Vettel, who has won four world titles, has decided to end his career in Formula 1 at the end of the current season. This was reported on the website of the Aston Martin team, for which the German pilot is currently playing.

“Over the past 15 years, I have had the privilege of working with many great people in Formula 1 – too many to be mentioned and thanked. I have been driving for Aston Martin for the last two years and although our results have not been as good as we had hoped, it is clear to me that everything is moving towards the fact that the team will perform at the highest level for many years to come.

I hope that the work that I did last year and continue to do this year will help in the development of a team that will win in the future.

The decision to retire from Formula 1 was a difficult one for me and I spent a lot of time thinking about it. At the end of the year, I want to take some more time to think about what I will focus on next. It’s very clear to me that as a father, I want to spend more time with my family, but today is not about saying goodbye.

Rather, it is about saying thank you to everyone – not least the fans, without whose passionate support Formula 1 could not exist, – said the 35-year-old driver.

Vettel won the championship in 2010-2013 as part of the Red Bull team. The German is third in the number of victories in the Formula 1 Grand Prix (53). Ahead of him are Lewis Hamilton (103) and Michael Schumacher (91).

Three Formula 1 teams filed a lawsuit due to the possible technical advantage of Mercedes and Red Bull

The Ferrari, Audi and Aston Martin teams have filed a joint lawsuit with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) over the advantage that Mercedes and Red Bull may have in the 2026 season under the new technical regulations, The Race reports.

In 2026, Formula 1 will switch to new technical regulations, which provide for a reduction in the fuel compression ratio in power plants from 18:1 to 16:1. This indicator will be monitored off the track.

According to the source, Mercedes and Red Bull have found a way to pass the tests while maintaining the actual race compression ratio at 18:1. This could give teams an advantage of 0.3-0.4 seconds per lap.

    — The regulations clearly define the maximum compression ratio and the method for measuring it, based on static conditions at ambient temperature. This procedure remains unchanged despite the reduction in the permissible compression ratio for 2026, the FIA said in a statement.

The FIA does not intend to change the regulations at least until the tests are carried out. Teams are allowed to update their power unit designs every six races of the season.
