The National Basketball Association has dropped its investigation into a fight between Miami Heat captain Bam Adebayo and former teammate Tyler Herro in Las Vegas. Adebayo struck Herro after a heated face-to-face confrontation in Sin City following Herro's trade to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Herro was traded to Milwaukee earlier this month in a blockbuster move that brought Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami after Herro and Adebayo played seven years together. Multiple reports revealed that Adebayo called Herro out on critical social media comments Herro allegedly made about Adebayo after his departure.
Herro had apparently questioned whether Adebayo was worth the three-year, $166 million contract extension he signed with the Heat in 2024. Herro said earlier this week that he wanted to move past the incident.
League Decision and Reaction
After speaking with both players and the National Basketball Players Association, the league decided to close its probe. "After discussing with the players involved and the NBPA, everyone would prefer to move on from this unfortunate circumstance, and no further action will be taken by the league," a spokesperson said.
Herro reportedly had to be held back from retaliating against Adebayo during the unruly scene, which is believed to have taken place in a gym.
Speaking to ESPN earlier this week, Herro said: "Honestly, I'm just trying to move past all of it. I'm focused on Milwaukee and building something special. They obviously just traded the greatest player in their history, so we want to come in and help continue what they've been doing."
The Heat and the Bucks faced each other in NBA Summer League action later on Friday afternoon, with all players involved in the trade, excluding Antetokounmpo, in attendance. The Heat previously stated they were aware of the incident and declined further comment.
Herro spoke briefly to The Miami Herald and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel after the summer game, saying "my only comment is no comment." Nobody from the Bucks or the Heat responded to developments on Thursday.
