PARIS – The historic appearance of Rafael Nadal, who won his 21st Grand Slam title on Sunday, did not upset the ATP rankings, of which Novak Djokovic remains the top scorer on Monday, ahead of unlucky Australian Open finalist Daniil Medvedev.
Only change to top 10 Italian Matteo Berrettini climbs one place, to 6th place, just behind Nadal, who eliminated him in the Melbourne semifinals.
Eventually expelled after a legal battle with Australian authorities, where he wanted to enter without being vaccinated against COVID-19, Djokovic began his 358th week at the helm of world tennis on Monday.
The Serb is benefiting from the points he earned in Melbourne until February 21st last year: the ATP ranking established runs for a year and the first Grand Slam of the year has been postponed to February 2021.
Medvedev is approaching behind him, now less than 1000 points. German Alexander Zverev is still finishing the podium, ahead of the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the fourth semifinal in Melbourne.
Make a note of the entry in top 20 of Spain Pablo Carreno, 17th (+4) and American Taylor Fritz, 20th (+2), and the conquest of four places by the Frenchman Gaël Monfils, quarterfinal in Melbourne and now 16th.
