Andy Murray forfeits clay season
(London) Scot Andy Murray, 102e World Cup, has confirmed that he will not participate in the clay court season in the coming months in order to put all the chances in his favor to participate in Wimbledon (June 27-July 10).
The three-time Grand Slam winner (United States Open 2012, Wimbledon 2013 and 2016) also formalizes his absence from Roland-Garros, which he also missed last year.
Andy Murray, 34, has struggled to regain the level of play that took him to world No. 1 in 2016 since major surgery in 2019 for a hip problem.
“I don’t plan on playing on clay, as clay has made my problems worse for the past couple of years,” Murray told the BBC.

Murray will return to the courts at the Rotterdam Open next week for the first time since losing the Australian Open second round.
