(Tampico) Rebecca Marino got the better of Leylah Fernandez in a Canadian duel in the quarterfinals of the Abierto Tampico tournament on Thursday.
Marino won 72.4% of his first-serve points to win in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
Vancouver native Marino had four aces and converted five break points in 10 chances.
Fernandez had a tough night winning just 50% of his points on the first serve. The 20-year-old Quebecer recorded two aces and completed her two break opportunities.
