(Hobart) Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin is just two wins away from her first title in three years, after coming from behind to advance to the semi-finals of the Hobart International tournament .

Kenin, 24, defeated Anhelina Kalinina 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 on Thursday. Kenin, once the fourth racket in the world and currently 280ehas tumbled in the standings due to injuries and poor quality of play since winning at Melbourne Park in 2020.

This is the American’s first semi-final on the WTA Tour or in a Grand Slam since taking part in the French Open final in 2020.

Kenin, who triumphed in Hobart in 2019, will now face 21-year-old Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

Cocciaretto, who stunned third seed Alizé Cornet in the first round, defeated sixth seed Bernarda Pera 5-7, 7-6(6), 6-4 in the quarterfinals.

On Thursday, Kenin learned in the draw for the Australian Open that she will face the two-time champion of the first Grand Slam tournament of the season in the first round, the 25e seeded Victoria Azarenka.
