Sakkari: “I want to win the Australian Open”
Speaking on the Australian Open official website, Maria Sakkari did not hide her desire to win the first Grand Slam of the year.
Maria Sakkari gave a great interview on the Australian Open official website. In it she spoke, among other things, about her presence in Australia, but also about her goals at the first Grand Slam of the year.
“I’m ready to see what 2023 brings me” he said first and then when asked about being in the top ten for the second year in a row he said: “I’m very proud of myself. It was not an easy task”
Seemingly enjoying playing in Australia, he said: “It’s the perfect place to start the season. Australian culture is very special and unique. All the people are very nice and there is also a very big Greek community here and I always enjoy it. It feels like home, especially in Melbourne because everywhere I go I hear Greek. The weather is great and the tournaments are also very well organized. We’re still a little tired from the pre-season, but we like coming to such a beautiful place with this climate. I don’t think we could. There’s no better place than Australia.”
Regarding her previous presence in Australia she said: “I’m definitely a lot better than last year. Last year I was in Adelaide and I didn’t want to be there. The gap between the WTA Finals and Adelaide was too small, I wasn’t used to that. I was emotionally charged and just not ready for it the start of the new season. This year I also used the experience from last year to be able to deal with the situation better.”
About her United Cup experience: “We experienced unique moments and were able to share all the joys together. It cheers me up every time and makes my preparation for the Australian Open a lot easier.”
About his goals in the first Grand Slam he said: “I want to win the Australian Open. I think I’m in good shape but you never know how things are going to go in tennis. I will do my best to stay in the tournament as long as possible. I love Australia, I think you already know that, I just want to stay here as long as possible.”
