(Melbourne) Nick Kyrgios’ knee surgery was a “great success”, raising hopes of the Australian’s return to the courts at the Indian Wells tournament in March, his manager said on Tuesday.

Kyrgios, 27, underwent surgery on Monday after having to forfeit the Australian Open at the last minute, saying he was “destroyed [psychologiquement] to miss this home tournament.

“The operation was a great success,” manager Daniel Horsfall told the Melbourne daily. The Age.

“We couldn’t have been happier with the result. Now we will do everything for a quick recovery and we are aiming for a return to Indian Wells,” he added.

Kyrgios suffered from a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee, which caused a cyst in the cartilage.
