Tsitsipas: “To win the Australian Open and build a school in Victoria”
Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Jiri Lehetska to advance to the “4” of the Australian Open. He stated that he would like to win the tournament and donate part of the prize money to start a school in Victoria.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, who advanced to the Australian Open ‘4’ after a big 3-0 set win over Jiri Lehetska, said after the match’s final that his goal was to win the tournament to provide money with which a school can be established in Victoria.
The Greek tennis player spoke about the great charity work and stressed that many children do not have access to education.
“Yes, I can say that it was a good performance. I felt different today than in the other games. The most important thing in the end was that I found a solution. He played two rounds, he played a very good tournament player who played well recently, I wish him all the best, he is a great player.
I had to negotiate the bumps, they were deeper on one side. In the tie-break it was a pivotal moment. Especially in this tiebreak. I controlled the game, I’m very happy with how I closed the second set. Remove a spartan reaction.
Australia is a great country. I like a lot here. My favorite actress is also from here. It would be nice to see them in the stands. I’m talking about Margot Robbie.
People always welcome me, I’ve said it many times. I grew up in a place that has a similar lifestyle, it feels like home. For me, the Australian Open is the Grand Slam where I feel at home.”
The reporter then asked him about the house he allegedly wanted to buy in Australia: “Let’s forget housing for a moment. I’ve recently been very involved in charity. I would love to win the Australian Open and build a school in Victoria and give away some resources.
Let’s leave tennis aside. There are far more important things than this. Victoria is the educational state. I have seen how difficult it is for many children around the world to access education. I would like to offer this function. That means Australia to me.”
A little later, he spoke to Eurosport again and emphasized that the experience he has gained from his previous games is crucial.
“My experience helped me. I tried to do my best in the past few times. I stopped him every time he could come back into the game. I didn’t give him a chance to improve.” he answered first.
Afterwards, when asked about Lehetska, he said: “He’s never been in a position like this before. He had a good run, he had good wins. He never had another opportunity like this in his career. I want to tell him to keep trying.”.
