Zverev was banned for eight weeks and fined 25,000 for his behavior in Acapulco

In addition to Zverev being fined $40,000 for his unacceptable behavior in Acapulco and of course his ejection from the tournament, the ATP handed the world No. 3 an eight-week ban and an additional $25,000 fine.

The ATP, after investigating the unacceptable behavior of Alexander Zverev in Acapulco and the attack on the doubles’ chair umpire, announced its decision to further punish the German tennis player, with a suspensive character.

Thus, in addition to the $40,000 fine immediately imposed on Zverev and of course his exclusion from the tournament, the ATP imposed an 8-week ban and an additional fine of 25,000 on the world No. 3 dollar.

However, this punishment will only be activated if Zverev behaves similarly in the year since the Acapulco incident (until February 22, 2023).

So if the 24-year-old German verbally or physically attacks an official, opponent or spectator during or at the end of a game, the 8-week penalty and the additional fine will be activated.

The fact that Zverev showed remorse for the incident and immediately apologized to everyone played an important role in the suspensive nature of the decision.
