Swiatek against Halep in the semi-finals
(Indian Wells) The Polish Iga Swiatek, the highest ranked player in the women’s draw, and the Romanian Simona Halep, winner of the event in 2015, will face each other in the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells.
Swiatek (4and world) swept 6-1, 6-0 the American Madison Keys (29and) in just 57 minutes.
Halep, former world number 1, now 26andtook two minutes less to get rid of Croatian Petra Martic 6-1, 6-1 (79and).
Very offensive, the winner of Roland-Garros (2018) and Wimbledon (2019), aged 30, had her best match of the tournament, against an opponent never in the game and looking tired.
Same observation for Swiatek, who also triumphed at Roland-Garros in 2020, and demonstrated that she was seriously gaining power, after three first matches won with forceps, needing three sets each time.
Two quarter-finals, to determine the other half, will oppose Thursday the defending champion, the Spaniard Paula Badosa (7and) to the Russian Veronika Kudermetova (21and), and the Greek Maria Sakkari (6and) to Kazakh Elena Rybakina (20and).

Russian Karen Khachanov moved from 18th to 17th place in the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), a new version of which was published on the organization’s website.
The best among Russians remains Daniil Medvedev, located in 13th place, Andrei Rublev is 16th. There have been no changes in the top ten rankings: Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is in the lead, Italian Jannik Sinner is second, and German representative Alexander Zverev is in third.
