Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal, paired with compatriot Mark Lopez, failed to reach the second round of the ATP 250 tournament in Brisbane in doubles.
Nadal and Lopez, who received a special invitation to compete at the competition, were defeated by Australians Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson with a score of 4:6, 4:6. The opponents spent 1 hour and 13 minutes on the court.
This game was the first for the 37-year-old Spaniard since January 16, 2023. Nadal missed almost the entire last season due to injury. In singles at the Brisbane tournament, Nadal will play against Austrian Dominic Thiem.
Previously, Nadal said that with a high degree of probability the 2024 season will be his last in his career.
Nadal is a 22-time Grand Slam winner. According to this indicator, among the ATP tour players, he is second only to the Serbian Novak Djokovic (24).
